I'm pretty convinced it's a hardware issue at this point. I want to replace my 12.9" 2nd Gen. but I don't know what to replace it with (iPad-wise) because it seems that all the newer models are also demonstrating this issue.

My spouse has a 10.5" iPad Pro 2nd Gen. and it works great--no touch issues and no white spot. There's also another family member with the iPad 6th Gen. and it works great as well. My iPad Mini 4 works. My 12.9" iPad though, sucks.

I can't bring myself to replace it because I simply don't know that this isn't going to happen again, which it probably will. I think, for me, I'm done with Apple products until these issues are addressed.

Can relate to this. The thing to remember though is that those of us experiencing the issue are a small subset of the user base. Still . . the fact that the issue exists in the new generation of pros is a concern for those of us with experience with the issue, particularly given the fact that upgrading to the next generation means another large investment in the device and accessories.

iOS 12.3 is garbage!!!

I’ve owned (3) iPad Pro 11” models due to touch response issues. The latest one I have now, has been perfect for going on 3 months!

I updated from perfectly operating iOS 12 to perfectly operating iOS 12.2.

I update to 12.3 and it has totally ruined my iPad.. Touch becomes almost inoperable it is so bad!

I had auto updates off for a reason. And I shouldn’t have updated to 12.3. Bad decision.

I might have to remove my screen protector. And hope it helps this!

If your touch is bad I would update to 12.3, if it is good then do NOT UPDATE TO 12.3

I've heard (anecdotally) that screen protectors mess with using the Apple Pencil. Personally, I stopped using them on all my devices years ago. I generally take care of my devices: tablets stay at home, phones stay in a pants pocket with nothing else. Glass is moderately hard; about the only thing that's going to damage it is rocks, sand, etc.

You realize this makes no sense, right? If it's software then it's not likely that it's going to be utterly horrible for one person and great for another.

That being said, my 12.9" 2nd Gen. was horrible and I just updated this evening, but I don't even really use the thing anymore.

It is my screen protector causing the problems with 12.3.. but 12.2 was perfect. Now I’ve gotta remove my screen protector. Damnit apple.

iOS 12.2.x is probably still being signed. Maybe you could roll back.

iOS 12 has issues with the new iPads while using a screen protector. The problems would go away if you were plugged in, or touching the edge of the iPads body.

12.2^ fixes all of this!

12.3 is identical to iOS 12.

I can plug in to a charger, and touch response is perfect, or hold my finger on the edge of the iPads glass. And touch response is perfect. Either way it is good.

So, we are going backwards here.

If your touch is good with 12.2 then why risk updating? Stay where your at.

If your touch is bad with 12.2, then yeah let’s try and fix it with a new update and cross our fingers that it actually helps.

The problem with the screen we have here generally is not connected to screen protector. Screen protector can make the issue worse, but generally with screen protector or without it the screen randomly becomes unresponsive no matter what. I don’t have any screen protectors on my iPad.

I know all about the different touch issues. I sold off two 11” iPad that never had a screen protector at all. And they both were cursed with touch problems. Anyways, your misunderstanding what I’m saying. My current iPad doesn’t have touch issues, it only had screen protector related touch symptoms which 12.2 fixed! Well iOS 12.3 has brought these issues back.

I can lay my iPad Pro 11” on a carpet rug, and the screen is non responsive. Or barely responsive to my touch. Then I can touch any finger to anywhere on the bezel, and touch response becomes perfect.

If I’m holding the iPad there is no touch issues at all.

Careful! My iPad went back to have this issue after updating from iOS 12.3 beta 3 to 12.3 final public release.

Mine was absolutely perfect with 12.2 final release. And I updated to 12.3 final release and it is a nightmare!

I was so happy with 12.2, it fixed the screen protector touch issues. And now 12.3 has just brought it back to feeling like iOS 12 all together.

I wish I would've never updated to it.

I had the issue with the 12.3 final. I just updated to 12.4 beta 2. I hope it fixes it.

I am not sure if anybody was lucky to change the iPad and have a good experience, without the unresponsiveness.

I’m curious too. Please keep me updated

disabling Multitasking Gesture seems to solve the problem for me... for now.

Well, I don’t want to jinx it, but it has been great for a few hours. The screen seems to be very responsive and I haven’t had any unresponsiveness. It was similar when I just installed 12.3, and then it broke, so time will tell.

I will keep you updated.

A little less that 12 hours after installing 12.4, the issue didn't reappear, and I have to say, the overall responsiveness of the screen has been improved. Maybe I was already frustrated with the choppy touch before, but now it seems to work much better.

Has anyone taken their iPad into the Apple Store and been allowed to replace with another?

Yes, I did that when inside warranty. They replaced my iPad with refurbished and it started to have the same unresponsive screen problem after 3 months. Right when the warranty ended up. So I went again to the Apple Store and they denied the problem "as known" even when I have demonstrated them the video. So they suggested me to buy a new iPad Pro for $900+.

I'm not alone, if you read numerous threads here the replacement is always a hit or miss.
