I'm used to Samsung's OLED screens. I have the Tab S2 8 and also the 9.7. I used the Ipad 12.9 2017 for two months. I like both screens a lot. The OLEDs are more colorful and prettier, the IPads more natural. Perhaps the IPad is a little easier on the eyes, but i think both are great. I didnt notice any yellow cast on the Ipad.

My thousand dollar Pro is nothing but a paperweight to me, as an artist..The images taken with the Pro camera are tinted yellowish, brownish, lacking in the blue spectrum. They are totally unacceptable.I have several Galaxy tabs which are pen-enabled with the Wacom digitizer, a much better implementation of a drawing instrument than the Apple pencil.Color me disappointed but also angered because of the enormous hype surrounding the 12.9 Pro.

My 2d gen. IPad pro has a yellowishnscreen. The images I have takr

[doublepost=1519802372][/doublepost]I received a 2d gen. IPad pro.I am a plein air artist, i.e. someone who paints outdoors so an accurate color gamut is critical to me.I shot 70 outdoor landscape images in bright daylight with the pro.The images have a yellowish or brownish tinge. They look horrible.True Tone is turned off.For my purposes, the device is totally unacceptable.I will not be able to use it as a painting tool. The unit is valueless to me, a $1000. paperweight.

Unless you bought it used, why didn’t you return the iPad? To say that you’re “not able” use it as a painting tool and that it’s just a paperweight is BS. It may not be a good fit for you and that’s fine, but talented artists all over the world are making incredible art with the Apple Pencil and iPad Pro.

No bs at all.It was a gift, a very generous one.The gifter is a relative out of state. There is no Apple store here.Yes, it should have been returned! I am a plein air blandscape painter. My needs are polar opposite of that of a graphic artist.I do feel angry about Apple's lack of quality control of these expensive tablet screens.I feel I was duped.I have been on four forums discussing problems with Apple tablet displays on phones and tablets. This is nothing new.I am reading postings going back to 2014.People are reporting exchanging their devices multiple times becausebof yellow screens. There are YouTube videos about this.Absolutely documented evidence of display problems going back several years.Enjoy your device but take a reality check.

Not defending anything, but just to put the situation in context it works like this:

-Apple wanted 120hz IPS panels with high calibration accuracy.
-This type of display only came into existence very recently in the consumer space.
-Yields may not be as good, and supplier options are limited.
-General display performance decreases (and/or variance increases).

On top of that, a decrease in thickness could negatively impact backlight uniformity if it means that the screen has uneven pressure on it.

OLED is a non-starter for productivity devices due to the burn-in (get used to seeing the Excel toolbar!), but I could see the appeal of using it on a mid-tier consumption-focused device. 120hz OLED panels are coming, and the current panels should theoretically support 90hz (for VR).
