The reason I ask is I love the 12.9” iPad Pro (2018)! However, I’m struggling with purchasing it as I feel it’s just too big. The 11” might be the perfect size for most iPad type tasks, but I would prefer the big screen!

So, I’m going to the community! Where do you most commonly use your 12.9” and what are you doing with it?

I bought an iPad Pro 11” on june, but when I saw the iPad Pro 12.9”, i felt in love . And i couldnt change. In september i see a promotion for college and I bought the bigger one.

I prefer the bigger screen because I use it for takes notes and underline documents at the same moment. I Watch Netflix and play some games, and I dont think that its so big now.

I got the 12.9 as an upgrade from the 10.5 Pro. While I kept the 10.5 it sees little use as I prefer the large screen of the 12.9. I use it for web browsing, some email, lots of video consumption (stored movies, Netflix, Amazon Prime, xfinity Stream), and some photo processing (Lightroom). When I pick up the 10.5 now it just seems too small and I haven't found the 12.9's size to be an issue when taking it out - it's still smaller and lighter than my laptop.

The use cases of others are interesting but ultimately you need to decide for yourself. It’s just an iPad and not rocket science.

I usually recommend to just buy it from a place with a good return policy and test it for yourself.
My 12.9 hardly ever leaves the house.

This. I carry mine around to meetings to take notes and to show photos and maps to others at meetings. For travel I love it for web browsing and media consumption. I can certainly understand the hesitation of others though, I think twice about carrying it around when on personal errands.

My Son lives in London and my wife and I spend about four months a year in Europe. Often times, my 12.9” iPad serves as my tv as I use slingbox to watch my home tv.

You have to test the 11” and 12.9”, if you buy them on Apple Store you can return the other for free in 14 days.

I take the 12.9” to go to the university and theres no problem with it weight

I know I need to take advantage of the return policy and it is ultimately up to me.... I'm just curious what others are doing with their large tablets. I appreciate the responses!

I had never used a 12.9 and I don’t think I’d actually seen one (in person). Coming from a 10.5 performance was similar however the 12.9 is just gorgeous. Browsing the web on it feels kinda special and things like The News app really impress on the larger screen. The best way I could describe using the 12.9 is to say it’s an experience. Something that makes me feel Im using an iPad for the 1st time. It really is a whole new experience for me.

I was set on returning mine because I couldn’t see the point in owning both and kinda needed the cash but when trying to go back to 10.5 it was just plain weird adjusting to the size again. It (10.5) genuinely feels like a mini now and am convinced it has physically shrunk ;)

There’s also an older thread here on this board discussing the 11 or
12.9 question with many answers, might e worth a read.

I switched between the two models about five times. Could never really decide as each has very unique advantages. Ultimately i settled for the bigger one as it does so much more and enables me to leave my laptop at home.

I mostly use it for work, sketching logo ideas and graphics for websites. It works really well for that since it's about the same size as the paper sketchbook I normally use. I think it would also be great for travel when I need something bigger than my phone but don't want to take my 15" mbp. I had both on my last business trip and could easily have gotten by with just the ipad.

The ideal for me at least is to have a 12.9 wifi only and a mini 5 cellular for mobility. I’ve got to the point where I have to have the 12.9, my most used device, absolutely love it. I also kept my 10.5, which is still great for many uses. I work on iPads and so having three isn’t the indulgence it seems.
If I could only have one and I wanted to take it everywhere I would probably go with the 11”. I haven’t compared them so don’t know the weight difference, but there isn’t a huge amount of difference in the size, so I would probably go with 12,9 unless usage was like 90% portability.

I do all sorts of stuff with my 12.9 inch iPad Pro. I use it for gaming purposes, media consumption, and all sorts of stuff.

So I finally bought a 12.9 today and man am I glad I got the big one. It’s only been a few hours but I already feel totally comfortable using it. Doesn’t feel too big at all for casual use. First thing I did was show my mom some holiday photos and MAN is this display stunning! Showed her some old jazz clips she requested on YouTube and the speakers are great too. I’m already 110% sure I made the right choice buying this thing. And I haven’t even unboxed the pen or used it for work yet...

This device is heaven.

If you think 12.9 is too big the loveable keyboard on iOS 13 will make life easier

You weren’t kidding. Typing this on the mini keyboard, and yes sir does it make life easier on iPad. Especially this big hunker. I’ve got the tablet rested on my belly as I’m lying down, mini keyboard simply dragged up half way to the top of the screen, PERFECT casual typing position.

In my opinion, the 12.9 is the only iPad Pro worth buying. The reason is that multitasking is a key pro feature. When two apps are side by side on the 11, the apps switch to the less-functional iphone versions. When two apps are used side by side on the 12.9, they continue to function as ipad apps.

This is key! The 12.9 is the one to go for!

That being said, I would love an iPad Pro mini! I want to use apple pencil 2, not pencil 1. I want the thinner bezels of the current design language. The mini 5 is a huge update to mini 4/3/2, but I want a mini Pro!

(BTW, I do not need a keyboard for the mini Pro) It would primarily be a pencil and thumb-typing kind of device. Or I could use the fabulous Logitech K780 keyboard with it. https://www.logitech.com/en-ca/product/k780-multi-device-wireless-keyboard?crid=1221)

Yeah, went from the Air 2 to the 10.5 Pro to the 2018 12.9 and this things just blows me away. My iPad usage has gone way up since I got this device as I use it more than I ever did with the others for photos and streaming video from Netflix, Prime Video, and Blu-Rays ripped from my collection. When I bought it I was worried about the the size being a problem but it turned out that the size was the prize.

Yeah getting the two full iPad version apps next to each other is really an advantage. I can still see the 11 be a great purchase for someone who prefers increased portability though. It’ll still be a way more competent device than the lower tier iPads.

The second paragraph is what made me use that corny love emote for the first time haha. I’ve been dreaming of a pro mini for a year now. And have been bashed several times for suggesting it on this forum :p A mini with these thin bezels, pro motion, pencil 2 compatibility would be such a beastly on the go power notebook. Give it an OLED screen and it’d be the perfect ereader too, I’d get one in a second even if I now have the 12.9. I’ve been wanting a mini pro ever since the max size iPhones began to feel too heavy and cumbersome to me.

iPads are never getting OLED..... ever. Apple is transitioning to microLED. A better option than OLED.
