As I type this I’m alternating between Twitter, Discord, Notes and Spotify on slide-over. I mainly use my 12.9 for writing, Procreate, editing photos, watching iPlayer/Netflix/Prime, general browsing.

It is mainly used at home to be fair but I’ve no issues taking it out and about with the Smart Keyboard if I need to.

I bought the 12.9” last year for college. I use it for taking notes, typing papers, and watching all the content for class. We transitioned to ebooks this semester and it is even more versatile. I was able to sit in the airport and do a weeks worth of work before going on vacation last summer. I just bought a Bluetooth keyboard for $18 a few months ago and it has really made it more useful. This is not even including the recreational uses I get out of it. It’s one of the best purchases I have made in a while.

I use my 12.9 pretty much wherever I’d use a laptop—at home (couch, dining table, occasionally in bed), coffee shops, and when traveling out of town. I also bring it to work daily to use on the side for personal tasks. (At my home and work desks, I mainly use Macs.)
But I only use my 12.9 for portable productivity and creation, either with the keyboard like a laptop or with the pencil like a sketchbook. I prefer iPad mini for traditional tablet uses, like casual reading and quick tasks (eg. macrumors). And for all video, I prefer sitting on my couch and watching it on my TV.

I use my iPad Pro 12.9” for virtually everything, work on my desk with Smart Keyboard, when travelling in car and flying, to play music, browse the web, watch TV and video, photo editing and for reading. It is my almost constant companion. Much prefer to using laptop computer or using the iPhone (just used for reference on the go, photography and phone calls). Typically I use my iPad Pro for around 11 hours a day.

The 12.9” I find perfect for everything. I would not consider moving to the 11”.

I am on my third 12.9, having found each one to be a worthwhile upgrade over the previous generation. The 2018 model is fantastic with it’s reduced silhouette and iPadOS 13 has taken things to the next level.

I use my 12.9 for almost all my personal computing needs, only firing up my MBP maybe once a month, mostly for gaming that can’t be had on the iPad. I also use it for work, especially when on the road.

I use it for:
  • Web browsing
  • Email and calendar
  • Watching video
  • Reading document (including large format books)
  • Writing documents (Word just needs to gain a couple of features to make this almost a complete solution, as is it is a less capable option currently)
  • Taking notes in meetings (as mind maps)
  • Drawing diagrams in meetings with the Pencil
  • Simple technical drawings for inclusion in other stuff
  • Simple photo touch up

If the Office apps where fully featured then I could do away with my laptop for 95% of my work.
