Currently got a 256GB iPad and have all my photos locally stored along with the apps and it’s over 256 GB

So set the photos to sync in ICloud and this drops the usage to around 50GB as my photo library is around 200GB

Son I can’t really buy a 256GB iPad Pro and store locally so feel I might as well get 128GB and save £100

Anyone think the 128GB will be to low with pro apps and bigger apps / games coming maybe ?.

Honestly, I do just fine with 128GB and LumaFusion. 128GB is fine for most people.

It doesn’t sound like you are a local storage advocate. So 128GB should be just fine.
I love local storage. Perfect when internet is not an option, which I can run into at any moment.

If you can afford the 256 then why not? There's never been an issue with someone having too much space. My last iPad Pro was 64 gigs and I upgraded to 256 this time to match my iPhone's storage. I may never use it all but at least it's there.

128 GB may be less if you are planning to keep iPad for a long time. I suggest going for 256 and to continue using cloud service. I upgraded from 64 GB Air 2 to 256 GB 11" Pro(2020). With bigger storage capacity, you get peace of mind even though you may have to use cloud

With my 10.5 I took the classic advice of “get as much storage as you can possibly afford for future proofing”, so I got 512GB. What a huge waste of money that was!

I’m retiring this device tomorrow and after all these years I’m using a whopping 53GB and I could easily trim it down if I needed to.

I’m no longer going to follow that advice. 128GB for me. If it becomes a nuisance then I’ll deal with it then, but I suspect I’ll get along just fine.

I’m also not going to get the WIFI+Cellular model. I used cellular maybe a handful of times and I could have very easily just used the hotspot on my phone for those few times.

Feels good saving money on the base model.

I had the same philosophy, which I think was developed when Apple devices began with 16GB! Much of the storage, IIRC, was consumed with the OS.

I wanted to upgrade my 10.5” iPP to a 2020 12.9” and initially ordered a 256GB from Costco. Then I saw that I’ve used only 61GB of my 10.5” iPP’s 256GB, wondered why I was so cavalier about giving Apple another hundred dollars for something that I probably won’t use, canceled the 256GB and ordered a 128GB. I’ve come to consider the 128GB option the sweet spot for me (it’s proven fine on my almost 3-year-old iPhone XR.

You dont think Apple will release some killer App or iPadOS which needs more storage in June ?

Just wondering if the extra £100 is worth the longer term gains

Yeah, never listen to some randos on the internet including me :) Future proofing is saving your money and upgrading frequently, haha.

My philosophy has always been ... if im having an internal struggle now about one vs. the other, I always go higher because I can't just swap out space ... I had that struggle deciding between 512 and 1tb this year ... I went 1TB just in case ... cost me more in the short term, but adds longevity to the device, depending on how often you upgrade ...find your use case and then decide if you can live with 128 ... (BW, my photos are well over 2TB so iCloud works well for that part)

I had a 64GB Air 2 and upgraded to 256GB for the 10.5” iPad Pro.

When I pre-ordered the 12.9”, I stayed with 256GB.

Most of what I do is in the cloud, so I don’t need much local storage. However, pre-pandemic I would travel a lot and the extra storage was great to store movies and television shows for flights. Most of the time, my iPad storage is somewhere of 60-70GB used, but sometimes I did hit 100GB+ used on those trips.

For just $100 more, it’s nice to have double the storage. With it being four years since I bought my last iPad, I assume I’m not buying a new one again until 2024-2025. I’d rather have the extra storage capacity just to be on the safe side.

I always go 256GB these days at the very least, just for futureproofing, but it sounds like you should be fine with 128GB. If you do not foresee yourself needing a large amount of local storage then get 128GB.

I would go with 256, you’re already paying a lot of money for the iPad and I don’t feel the $100 price increase for double the storage is that significant.

I experienced the same dilemma today. My 10.5” iPad Pro w/ 256 still has 177 free. I keep just about everything in iCloud or my laptops. So I splurged and ordered the 2021 12.9” w/ 256.

A lot of people on here max out their stuff just so they can brag about having the top tier device.

Some people work away mate, like myself on an Oil Rig and I prefer the higher tier.

The internet is really bad and very slow, and absolutely no possible chance to download photos or videos etc

So I always choose the 1TB version to allow me to store more :)

Let me say this, how long do you plan on having this iPad for? If you keep it atleast 5 years it may be worth getting the higher size model. Phones are starting to record in 8K and I'm sure the iPhone will be right around the corner with it. Not to mention better cameras mean more space. Yes you can store it in the cloud but with higher res videos it will take a sec to get to your device.
