How are people going to run iPhoto on the new MB Air?
This is my dilemma.
Storage is small on these, and my iPhoto library is large.

Is it possible and fast-running, to use a shared iPhoto library on a wireless network, running off another "parked" macbook? Or running the library off a USB external HD?

I am thinking of getting the 13" MBAir but it needs to be my primary computer.

Also, if I am using a shared iPhoto library from my other Mac, can I pop in an SD with photos on the MB Air, edit the photos with iPhoto, and save them on that shared library?

Thanks

My wife does this. She keeps her library on an external drive. Holds the option key on starting iphoto and selects the appropriate library on the external drive. Seems to work well for her. She has also done this with Aperture. It also works on the network drive we have as we have been testing all the possible scenarios.

So if I understand you correctly, you are running the new Macbook Air, but managing all photos with iPhoto off an external HD?
1) Do you mind asking your wife if editing of the photos results in beachballs (I guess due to the slow access times via a USB HD or wireless network drive)? Is it noticeably slower than running iPhoto right off the Macbook air?

2) Can you attach your iPhone (camera) to the Macbook Air but download the iPhone photos directly to the shared network drive? Is this very slow?

Thanks a million!

She is still testing that using an external drive. She stopped using the network drive but not because of it being slow but she wanted to test an external first. I would tend to think the network drive would have to be slower. How much slower we don't know yet. But for now she has all photos on an external. As she edits and does more I'll post what she comes up with.
