Right, so I shut down my MBP on Friday morning, after I noticed it had drained from 100% to 93% overnight.

I was away this weekend, just got back home and tried to start it up. Of course there is no charge at all now. It's drained itself to zero whilst shut down over the course of 3 1/2 days. Surely that's not normal? These MBPs etc normally ship with some charge in the battery, as do the replacement batteries. They could be sitting in a warehouse, in transit, on the shop floor etc for several days/weeks at a time. Why is this machine just draining itself the whole time? This is unacceptable.

Will be returning this to Regent Street. Not sure I'm gonna bother with a 4th.

Well in case anyone is at all interested  I did a little experiment...

Again overnight the battery dropped from 81% charge to 52% (in 8.5 hours)

I removed the battery this morning and left the MBP just plugged in to the mains while I was at work. 11 hours later I put the battery back in and the charge was exactly the same as it was when I'd disconnected it, 52%.

So in other words the battery retains its charge when out of the machine (so not a faulty battery then) but not when inside the machine either shut down or asleep (yes I know it's normal to lose a 1% (or less) per hour asleep but the figures I've quoted here aren't normal.)

Anyway. This machine's being returned later this week but just thought I'd share this info with you...

My MBP also had the same problem of taking forever to go to sleep... but it does not seem to loose much battery power during sleep. I charged it up till 100% yesterday night, and let it sleep unplugged for 8 hours. After waking it up, the charge went down to 92%- in other words, it lost about 1% charge per hour... which is not bad considering what you folks are getting!

My MBP takes about 45seconds to sleep though...

Do you have the let bluetooth devices wake up from sleeping option on? If so, then the bluetooth module would be left ON while sleeping, thus draining battery faster.

I only turn i Bluetooth when I need to use it. It draines a lot, yes. I also unplug my Logitech Optical USB mouse, because it never turns of the optical light when my MBP sleeps.

No I didn't have any Bluetooth options enabled and I only ever turn Bluetooth on when I need to sync my phone or whatever. That MBP has now been returned to the store for a refund... after I had an argument with a so-called "Genius" trying to tell me that me putting the MBP to sleep around midnight with full charge and coming home from work the next day to find it with around 30% charge was normal behaviour for an Intel machine. Genius  I'm now MacBook Pro-less and back to using my PowerBook thanks.

Well, my 2.4ghz 15" I put it to sleep at about 7:50am today and at 8:40am I used it for about 5 minutes and just got home like 10 minutes ago (6:40pm) and woke it up at the batter was at 92%

So after 10h 50m the battery dropped 8%

Bump

Any update? I seem to be suffering from this same problem - if I unplug my mbp (got it last week - 30th week I believe) overnight with it on, the battery is dead when I wake up. I have to plug it in and boot the computer up from step one.

Does anyone have a certain solution to this problem?

Thanks!
Steven

Return it, it's faulty.

I'm now on my 4th MBP and not suffering this issue any more.
