Hi,

I'm getting a strange graphical distortion when I switch between desktops/spaces at the top right. It only happens on the laptop screen and doesn't seem to matter if the external monitor is connected or not.

Its not that noticeable depending on the wallpaper, so is really noticeable on the pattern from the Shining.

I'm running 12.0.1 on an M1 Pro Max machine, so was wondering if anybody else is seeing similar before I call Apple?

Looks more like a graphical glitch. If factory resetting and reinstalling the os doesn't fix it. Exchange it probably. Since I haven't heard about this problem yet. So it could be the GPU showing defects

Yeah, that's what I was thinking, I've tried reinstalling the OS and its still there.

The screen is amazing though and this looks GPU-related.

Honestly, that looks like a GPU glitch, not a screen issue. My first instinct is that you have a GPU core that should have binned and wasn't - I'd reach out to Apple about this.

Yep. Considering that. And how you're the only one with this GPU glitch. I would exchange it now. Rather than it suddenly dieing on you ?
That's it returned to Apple and I'm home without a 16" MBP as they didn't have any in stock for sale or for warranty swap-outs.

I'm away next week with work so I had to pop next door to John Lewis and buy a 14" machine for the trip. I don't need the power of the Max chip for next week, but needed something reasonably powerful and with more than a couple of ports or I'd have gone for an Air.

That's too bad. Well, let's just hope you'll get a new replacement unit soon!! Better wait a little time now than have your active used Mac breaking when you need it the most :p

That was exactly my worry if it was a faulty GPU, so I'll just have to get by (?) with this 14" machine for the next while and see what happens with stock.

The glitch at the top could be a software bug. A hardware defect would be visible permanently.

The other warping in the video that’s moiré. Don’t know if you are seeing it with your eyes or if your camera is having the effect.

I had a light appear in the middle of my screen. I thought it was a scratch but looked closer and it was just a few pixels showing white instead of the dark gray of the GUI. I moved the window around and those pixels then showed the right color. So there are visual glitches in Monterey which will be fixed.

Would think it's a SW glitch if other people have this same issue. And since he already reinstalled Monterey and it's still the same suggests that it could be hw. I would not take my chances in that tbh

Apple were keen to get the laptop back - nothing showed-up on diagnostics but given a clean install of Monterey with the problem persisting, the engineer I spoke with today was thinking it was GPU-related. Interestingly the 1st line person I spoke-to was saying there had been issues of users complaining of blurry screens under certain lighting conditions, but it clearly wasn't that.

Apart from ending up with a machine with half the RAM, the main annoyance just now is having to reinstall everything as I didn't have time to do a full backup earlier due to how my meetings were.

Interesting using a 14" now after having a 16" since launch though.

But with your limited time in using it. What is your experience using it?? Apart of the GPU defects ??

I noticed a similar glitch yesterday, only once, don't remember what exactly I was doing when it appeared.

Does it appear when doing other things other than swiping between desktops?

If it regularly appears when doing anything else then there is a chance it is hardware. If it only happens when doing this swiping it’s software.

Ouch that sucks, definitely GPU related, kinda looks like the artifacts i'd get with 3080 when pushing mem clocks too high.

Some people have no idea what ‘disaster‘ means. They have such comfortable lives they lose their minds even if a fly comes in the window. They have no context what a real disaster looks like.

No. In this country we just had 4 years of disaster. We know.

I was in Beirut when Israel bombed the city and lived in Tbilisi during the post-Soviet days of war, assassination and no electricity. The past 4 years in America have been completely normal and benign.
