I have a 16 pro and was going to wait until the 18 pro comes out to trade in, but knowing the trade in value will drop on release day, should I just upgrade to 17 pro today. For note, I have two phones, business and personal. So I would trade my iPhone Air for the 18 pro for personal use.

Thoughts?

Personally I don't know why people do this on the forum . . . asking what they should do with regards to trading in their iPhones for the current generation or the upcoming generation iPhones? For one thing we don't know your use case on how you use your iPhones, what is important to you and how you plan to use your devices so making blanket recommendations does not make any sense to me.

If anything I would say consider your options with regards to features that the current generation 17 Pro offers as compared to the rumored 18 Pro features and which works best for your use case. Also as you mentioned, your trade in value for your 16 Pro will most likely go down once the 18 Pro comes out but another thing to consider is pricing of the new 18 Pro. There will be price increases with the incoming 18 Pro series to take into consideration and also the storage configuration you are looking at.

This is why I made my initial comment the way I did. Only you can determine what will work best for you. I myself just picked up my 2TB 17 Pro Max knowing that the incoming 18 Pro series will come with as much as $300 price increase and I don't think I want to bite the bullet on this for a comparable storage configured device.

I would argue you don't need to upgrade at all. But if you know you want to and are going to anyway, two thoughts.

First, will you be able to be satisfied with the 17 Pro if you get it, and then the 18 Pro is released? If not, then just wait and get the 18 Pro. If you're already feeling the itch to upgrade and you have the 16 Pro, then it might not take long for you to say, "eh, maybe I should have the 18 Pro after all".

Second, if the rumors are true, and prices increase, the 17 Pro could become one of the last great Pro phones at that price point for awhile. And I don't see - again based solely on rumors - anything making the 18 Pro significantly better. I think anybody buying the 17 Pro now will be perfectly happy for years to come and might get the most bang for their buck when it comes to Pro phones going forward.

Either way, I’m going to get an 18 pro. I would either trade the 16 pro for the 17 pro now, then trade my air for the 18 pro. Or wait and do a trade direct to 18 pro from 16 pro.

Seeing as I couldn't find any difference between my 16 Pro Max and my wifes 17 Pro in use, I really wouldn't be rushing to upgrade. The 18 Pro will be slightly better, but these days its all so minor, I'd save your money.

Your 16 Pro and iPhone Air are more premium phones than the 17/18 Pro.

Wait and trade 16 Pro for 18 Pro. Keep the Air.

why do you even want to trade in the phone? they last 5-6 years easily or even more...
i would say hold and trade in later. you're already losing 50% of the phone price to begin with.

Nowadays it’s 7 years thanks to the A13 Bionic still being supported for the 11 series
