I went with the 32 GB model and saved the extra $100 that went towards accessories anyhow. I have a big iTunes library, but when I load my 32 GB iPod Touch or iPad I am more selective. Out of my 5600+ songs there are only about 2500 or so that I really like. I still dump everything on my 80 GB Classic, but I think most people with large libraries will find out they only "really" listen to a smaller portion of songs.

I just made a smart playlist with the most played songs, all purchased items and highest rated and I use that to load my smaller capacity devices.

My 2 cents. I have a 32GB iPhone. I have a few games and keep around 100 songs on it. Additionally I have around 300 plus photos and a few videos taken with the phone. I get bored easily and tire of listening to the same songs or watching the same videos. I don't do movies on tiny screens. I'm only using 2GBs of storage. At least for me, the 32GB 3Gs iPad will be more than enough even with the additional apps, books, etc.

So in one week you already are using 2 gigs. Tack on the 2+ gigs that the OS eats up and your 16 gig iPad would now only have 12 gigs of storage. I think your post actually is a great reason why 16 gigs is going to be too small.

Yep, I agree!

Once I loaded up my wife's new 16GB iPad I only had 5GB left. That's not much for going forward with. So I returned that one and got a 64GB instead.

Get the largest one you can. My 32gb is already getting almost full even without much music or any video.

I at first bought the 16g it had yellowing so took my son's 32g it has a beautiful bright white screen. Think I am keeping the 32g,

I went with 32Gb but now i think I should have bought 16Gb. I am not listening to music on iPad, iPhone is better for that. The only reason I went for 32Gb is because I was having too much pain to update Navigon mobile navigator on my 8Gb iPhone every time update was released. I guess we may see some big applications in the future. So far my 32GB iPad has almost 30GB free and i have a few movies loaded.

Same here. I decided to take the 32gb for one reason...video. Although I use Netflix, I really really like to watch movies when traveling. I never know what movie I might want to watch, so I prefer the extra space to throw a ton on there between syncs.

Im really thinking about getting the 16gb 3g Ipad but leaning to the 32gb 3g Ipad. My question is I have the 16gb I tough 2nd Gen. I have never filled that up. All 50 games 20 movies ect ect. Will the 16gb Ipad fill faster than the itouch? Im just using the ipad for Movies, Games, Internet and Magazines, News Papers, but thats it.

I have a 16GB iPhone 3gs which is barely half full. Initially I was going to get the 16 GB iPad but changed my mind and went with the 32 GB. Glad I did :D

You have a point . . . rule of thumb on hard drive space is buy as large as you can afford . . . same with memory

I have the 16gb 3g iPad pre-ordered. You might want to look into a little app called AirVideo. This app will stream all your movies (non DRM) from your computer (iTunes or Folder) over to your iPhone and/or iPad. No need to store anything on the device. If your a mobile me user, Apple has an app called Gallery which lets you view all your pictures through a cloud on your iPhone. I would assume the iPad app is just around the corner.

Streaming music to the iPad is probably next.

Considering I stream any audio/video that I need 99% of the time... the rest of my space is for apps, photos and pdfs.. 16GB has done me fine.

I'm sure I'll take a trip and will put a few movies on there... but at that point, just how many do I need? I'd be able to fit 5-10 on there, surely... and that'd have to be enough.

Glad to see this thread

Been on the fence as the delivery date for the iPad 3G approaches. If I had very deep pockets I would go for the 64GB model. Been torn between the 16 and 32 here....

So far my 8GB iPhone has done me well. So the 16GB iPad should work for me in the end. But I have concerns about added content - books and magazines and the such. Plus as a photographer I am jazzed at the iPad being able to be a digital photo frame.

Leaning towards the 16GB iPad for now. Anyone can share how big books are from iBooks?

I went with what I could afford and simply had no more money to buy the 32gb because I have monthly bills etc. For the people saying " go for the 64gb one", with some of us, that is not even possible.

right on clairel....totally agree....very happy with the "poor mans" iPad :p

Looking like the 16GB is going to be my choice it seems. The extra $100 for the 32GB model will go towards content... Thanks for the wake-up call....

In my travels with the 1st iPhone (8GB), I have been able to mange my music and videos in my travels. In a perfect world it would be nice to have all of... my iTunes with me

I ordered the 16gb on last Wednesday. I shipped today. I am going with the 16gb because I can stream all my videos and movies that I want. So the storage is just for some music, photos and apps. Besides I save $100 that way, with which I can buy more apps, instead of buying the same iPad with bigger storage and no apps to fill it with :apple:

If price is an issue when you are sizing your iPad, keep in mind that your photos will be scaled down. My 20G iPhoto library only takes about 5G on the iPad. Also I primarily listen to music on my phone, not my iPad, so you may be able to forgo it all together, or compress it it 128kbs for occasional use.

Thanks for the thoughts...

Wanting the 3G iPad.. the extra $130 cuts in to my perfect world of costs. LOL From what I can take so far is the the 16GB will be OK for those of us that are using the 8GB iPhone.

What I am reading is that the 16GB iPad would need some management of the memory like what I do with my current iPhone...

Originally went with 16, but decided to go with 32. I was running out of space on the 16... and the apps are bigger now.

My vote is 32.

If I've got 10 average size movies, 1000 photos and about 50 apps would that all fit on a 16gb? Cheers.

I thought about the 16gb but it's just not enough. I already have 2gb of iPad apps, if I were too load my iPhone apps i'd have 9 or so gb, then i have 10gb of music. It fills up quicker than you think. iPad apps also take up more room it seems.

Going with the 64GB iPad 3G since you can't go back and add storage later. It's bad enough dropping apps from iPhone 3GS all the time to make room.

I went with the 16 GB, for the reason that iPad is only a toy for me. No need to worry about running out of space. Besides, I always have my Macbook with me even during traveling to swap files. This is also a first generation product that I don't plan to keep for a long time. To minimize my loss when I do sell it for upgrading to the new model, the rule of thumb is to buy the cheapest model available now.

That is quite an expensive toy :p
