I see where you are coming from. The keyboard doesn't work with me in FireFox from time to time. I have to use another program then return back to firefox so I can type again.

I have the same problem with FireFox! It drives me nuts.

Crucial RAM? No I have Apple's 2gb's RAM on it... I'm about to reset the PRAM I just don't know about the SMC. One Apple store is with in 10 minutes and another apple store with in 15 so I think i'll reset the PRAM and see what happens.

No, crucial as in critical and important...

Reset both PRAM and SMC. They will ask you to do that anyway.

You Got a Lemon, Take It In!

This does not sound like a PRAM or SMC firmware issue. Sounds much more like a RAM or hard drive issue. Whatever it is, your issues are not normal by any stretch and you should take it to the nearest Apple Store.

Everyone has different experiences @ the Apple Store, but myself and everyone I know has always gotten A+ service at the Genius Bar. (Fashion Valley & UTC stores in San Diego). If you get a high & mighty attitude from the Mac Geniuses, as some have reported, keep your eye on the prize and ignore the 'tude... just press for a new MBP and ask them to transfer the data. I personally know a few people that have had them do this for *free*. It should take a few days, tops... sometimes 24-48 hours. You have paid a very substantial amount of money for a *PRO* product and Apple will stand behind it. You want to be able to go home and say to yourself/girlfriend/friends:

Now witness the firepower of this fully ARMED and OPERATIONAL battle station!

FYI - I am typing this on my own battle station, my tank, my 1999 G4 Sawtooth tower... upgraded to 1.25Ghz (from 450Mhz) w/ 1 Gig RAM. Still runs Photoshop, Final Cut Pro, Garageband & Pro Tools perfectly fine. Name a PC from 1999 that can do that ;)

If you get the right system (not a lemon) it will last you for *years*. Good luck!

man i'm sorry to hear that you're having problems. i hope this doesn't turn you against Apple. i've bought 2 apple laptops within a year, and they've both been great. i've also bought 3 other desktops, and they've all been great.

i hope you get everything worked out:)

Not really a fair comparison - I can toss out the innards of an old PC and stick brand new (or year-old) bits in it for probably (much) less than what you paid for your upgrade processors. But that was a beautiful case.

Not to get off topic or sound like a fanboy ('cause I'm not), but I think this applies to the thread...

A Mac, especially a "Pro" model (i.e. 1999 G4 Tower, 2006 MBP), is more than innards and a case (i.e. - most PCs). You get what you pay for, and for what he paid he should get a top o' the line laptop w/o flaws (within reason). They do stand behind their products and will make him happy, *if* he just takes it in.

btw - I spent less than $200 upgrading my processor, took less than 3 days to arrive and took less than 5 min to install. No weird driver issues, booting to BIOS, etc. *Everything else* is stock and runs perfectly. I just don't see many PCs from 1999 running these days w/o (way) more *time* and money put into it. I am familiar with what you can do with an old PC case and new innards, I have built/rebuilt many a PC box myself...

...and you're right, it's not a fair comparison at all.

My point... take it in already, stop messing around and go get what you are deserved. You will be happy with it for a long, long time.

I'll check it. Thank you.

FYI - This is not an issue with your laptop or OS X. It's a known conflict bug in some combinations of extensions for FFx 2.0 and affects both Mac and PCs. Try disabling or updating all extensions as well as updating FFx... *after* returning your laptop to an Apple Store. ;)

Oh interesting I did not know that. I just discovered the home and back key never work in firefox... very interesting...

No this won't make me fall from Apple. I love this laptop for the minor glitches it has. OS X is fun for the most part. Only thing would really drive me away from Apple is price and software. All the things I do on my Mac I can do on a PC... I really don't use any of the Mac specific software or anything. I do Use FCP but that is just because Avid is slacking royally with a UB. All my PC's have been extremely reliable except one that had bad RAM. Windows worked fine for me so... Only reason I'd really switch I guess is if I needed a new comp and couldn't drop 2.7gs again like I did for this puppy.

And I will be taking it to Apple with in the next day or so... Was gonna take in tomorrow (well today) but just got in about an hour and a half ago and might not go to bed so I can go look for a Wii
