Thanks everyone. I opted for the 20" and I'm not sorry. I really like the size and have a feeling that it'll be excellent in my dorm come fall.

20" is better + X1600 video adapter = EXCELLENT CHOICE

NICE!
What specs did u get?

Interesting.

So you feel that you'll do just fine with an iMac as opposed to a macbook/pro? I am not disagreeing. I am in a similar situation. I absolutely love the ease and look of the iMac. I'm kinda in a twist on what I should get. I love the portability of the macbook/pro but I also feel much more comfortable with a desktop. The macbook is a lot better on my checkbook. The macbook pro is gorgeous and I want the screen real estate. Just it adds about 800 bucks more.

Let me know your thoughts on this please.

Congrats on your purchase. That really calls for a Party. Time for the beer bottles to fly. (Just make sure they dont really fly into the direction your iMac is sitting currently):D :D :p :D

What specs did you get BTW?

Actually, I already have a 15" Powerbook which suits all my portable needs. I figured I wanted a desktop in addition for when I do audio/video stuff, etc. Plus those new core duos are pretty nice.

I guess my point is that your choice of computer should depend mostly upon what you're going to be using your machine for. If you want to take notes on it in class, get a macbook. If you want to do pro stuff, get a macbook pro. If you want a large screen to watch movies on, etc. get an imac.

I ended up just getting a baseline 20". I am planning on upgrading the ram as soon as funds will allow. Already, though, I can tell this thing is much faster than my powerbook. I want to try out some audio/video stuff to really put it to the test.

I highly doubt that that would ever ever be possible.

My first year, I was in a triple (meaning three women) in one tiny-ass room in what is notoriously known to be a tiny roomed dorm at UC Berkeley. You'll be fine w/ a 20" iMac. *drool* Wish I had such a beast when I was in the dorms. Hehe.

You're jealous. Back when I was in college I was lucky to find a seat in the computer lab and use a x386 with DOS!! I was happy just to be able to use WordPerfect 5.1. I hated those darn function keys
