plasticparadox, thanks for the great post! :) I will read about all the possibilities that you wrote about. And, my LaCie burner came with a firewire cable. :)

17" vs 15"

I ordered a 17" the day after they came out, as I've been needing one for months. I'm still waiting to get it, because I ordered it with a 7200 HD. I went to my apple store today (The Hague, Holland) to check the status of my order, and even though it was shipped on the 25th, they couldn't tell me when it will be here.

While I was there I had a look at the ones they had for display, and I was very disappointed with the screen of the 17". It didn't look particularly bright at all. However, when I checked the 15" that was right next to it, I was amazed at how sharper the screen looked (compared to the old ones and to the new 17" that was there). Both were the new models! Now I'm starting to regret my choice, as I am paying $300 more for the 17" (both with 7200 HDs) only for the larger and supposedly better screen, but out of the two machines I saw at the store I would have DEFINITELY picked the 15" even if they were the same price! :(

Those are the only ones I have seen thus far though. Has any of you seen them side to side at the stores? How do you think they compare to each other?

I just checked FedEx and it say that it is at Dulles sorting facility. I called them if I could go pick it from there but they said that there is nobody there over the weekend. Dang!

Did your tracking info show it as having arrived in Indianapolis under an activity as "Int'l Shipment Release?" Is that just paperwork from the other reports in your tracking after that or is it the actual machine? The next status I got was that it departed the FedEx location. To where? I don't know, since the destination is Indianapolis itself.

yeah, it has been through that already.

Funny, you know when I got my vid ipod, there was no such entry about int'l release in the tracking/shipping history.

I agree with Sushi and I went with the larger HD. I figure 5400 rpm is fast enough for anything I do.
Now I'm jealous. My 80GB HD is busting at the seams! Arg!

One of these days I am going to upgrade to a 120GB one.

The question for me, is will I just get a new 120GB HD and put in my current PB15, or just get a new PB with the 120? :D

Decisions. Decisions.

I recently sold my 5 month old 12" with Superdrive for just under 1400 Euro (to buy new with edu discount is only 1499) so I didn't lose out too much.

Ordered a 15" but kind of wishing now that I had just gone for the 17" as i'm worried the screen will be defective when it gets here.. Oh well.

Enjoy your new powerbook :D
