They are not. The EEA applicable iPad warranty restricts service it to EEA. As for the Japanese one, I lack the Japanese skills to determine whether Apple JP enforces its general iPad/iPhone only clause giving the ability to restrict the warranty.

BTW iPods and Macs are not within the scope of the warranty limitation.

I assume that would be because of the additional length requirements for EEA products? I can say for sure that I have received service in the UK for my US iPhones and Macs
 
It's funny when these threads pop up.

The 12.9 64gb wifi on Apple's UK site is £969.00, or $1,238.31 USD, but that INCLUDES "VAT of approx. £162.00." per Apple's site.

So the TRUE product cost is really £807.00, or $1,031.29 USD. A whopping $31.30 USD more than the US pre-tax rate. And us in the US DO in fact pay tax in most all states except a few; it's not $999 out the door.

You can blame your government for that £162.00, or $207.02 USD, 16.72% VAT tax rate.
