Finally, the 1st Generation MBA is healed.... I just updated with the H.264 Quicktime support, rebooted, and now I haven't heard my fan rev up. After watching an 8 minute youtube video, I think it's safe to say the gen. 1 is a lot sweeter.

Is that Celsius or Fahrenheit? What temp would you consider too high?

Checking for updates now, thanks!

Celcius. Using coolbook that cured my core from shutting down, however, I can't really remember what my temps were like before the update. I did watch a full 21 minute episode on hulu and the average temp was around 68 celius. I've watched netflix streamed movies and the temps usually go around 81. I'll test today and see.

OMG!

Watching netflix streamed, by average temps are 68-70 degrees celcius w/coolbook and the new quicktime/ichat update.

Before it used to be 80 degrees celcius!:D

Attached is the screen shot!!!

This update is amazing

I ran a test a week ago on my air to see if I would get core shutdown. I watched the third presidential debate on Youtube - Results were no core shutdown, but I had temps between 85 and 91 C. The fan was going between 4000 and 6200.

After applying the software update for Quicktime H264, I am now sitting at 65C with the fan running at 2650 under the same test, it has not revved up once. The outside of the air is much cooler under the keyboard as well.

I never really had 'jumpy' video on youtube, but had the occasional lag. Have not seen this lag since running the update. This seems to have fixed the flash issues.

Ok cool so I guess something changed for the better. I wonder if I get a core shutdown if I took of the coolbook. :D

How about HD trailers/DVD rips and iTunes movies?

oops

So the fix worked for me - initially, then i upgraded to flash 10 - now the fan is running all over the place again.

I am going to have to do a system restore from time machine and re-apply the h264 update.

Encoding movies - I don't on my air, I have a 3.06 imac for that - sorry I can't provide more info.

Why would a H.264 Quicktime update improve flash video support?

I have coolbook, and Flash 10, and the H.264 update. Now, I can watch youtube videos maybe 20min THEN the fan will kick up. Same thing with ichat video. I can video chat for about 15-20min, then the fan will kick up to 6200rpm. Before, the threshold for both tests was about 3-4 minutes.

So this is not a complete fix, but it really helps.

At least it helps a little.
