I received my new iMac the other day. It's great! No more high pitch sound!
So my previous iMac definitely had a problem. Also, I noticed that the "chin" and the top left section (where hard drive is located) no longer vibrates (it was on the other one and I thought it was just normal).

I also noticed that this new iMac is using a Wester Digital (vs Seagate) hard drive. I heard that WDs are quieter than Seagates (at least their recent drives). So that may have been the problem.

Overall I'm VERY happy!

(BTW, it took about a week for my iMac to arrive at their warehouse and another 2-3 days for the new iMac to arrive at my house.)

I must have gotten lucky with my imac :) I ordered it from Apple.com directly (custom order) the day they were released at macworld. I ended up getting the system in on the 20th of Jan 2006.

Worked flawless out of the box, no funny sounds, very very quiet. No gaps in the screen, no kernel panics, ect.. It's been a great machine since I have had it ;)

Anyways! Goodluck with your new imac, I thought about selling mine and ordering a new one, but this baby will do fine for myself until 2008 macworld. I may order a macbook (13") once the c2d are in them and hope they have a better graphics card.
