I have just added a 5870 into my Lion Mac Pro

My reason was I wanted to play Battlefield 3 on Windows Via Boot Camp. I can play it but am trying to get the right settings as I am new to the PC gaming thing. I would like to see this in a new Mac Pro.

1,1 does it for me

I love my 1,1 with 5770, SSD boot drive, upgraded processors to 8 cores, expanded optical drive adding an extra 2 drives and 12 gig of memory. It does everything I need and does it fast (I use it for professional photography - processing an average of 4 jobs a week each of a thousand or so raw images). I want to keep it for years. Don't need anything more than Snow Leopard!! Fantastic frigin machine!

Edit: forgot to mention, when I bought the 5770 I also tried the 5870 to see if it was worth the extra money and couldn't tell any difference (I play F1 2010 and Xplane) so sent the 5870 back.

I recently 'pimped' my Mac Pro 1,1, I added eSATA, USB 3.0, at 5770, SSD, new HDD's and increased the RAM to 14 GB and I'm really pleased with the way it is performing.

Games are flying along nicely, what a great machine that first Intel MP was/is.

I have a 1,1 2006 Mac Pro with 8800GT from nVidia in it, what kind of - if any - performance gains would I see? I'm hoping not a lot as I don't want to have to spend money on a GPU

SSD would do better than anything else you could do.

I know, going to upgrade the processors first then SSD though.


Also after research the 5770 isn't that much faster, about twice as fast at best but even slower in some benchmarks. Plus I have CUDA.

For a Mac Pro?? Dang man, but you'll need a separate additional power source for dual 680's


Als you never got back to me from the multiple PM's I sent you, what's the lowest you'd take on the scratched 23" ACD? And would you consider a swap for a 24" SAMSUNG IPS LED LCD? Or trade plus cash?
