Got any photos of the card front and back?
Here are a photos from the original eBay listing and a screen shot how the flashing went.

This happens when you forgot to connect a temperature sensor.
But at least your screen would be on. Not sure that's it, or at least the only problem.

Oem bios shown in the nv flash screenshot don't match the ones witten on nikey22's original page. I'm also not sure that nikey22's list is exclusive though.

INFO - Nvidia GeForce GTX880M:

after several month of Quadro K2100M (55W) usage, I got a cheap chance
and buy an unpatched GTX880M (8GB) from an ebay-user of the Netherlands
for roundabout 100€.

Hopefully I exchange the card after days of think about temperatures and wattage
of the GTX880M (Peak: 122watts) and compare that with the Quadro K2100M (55 watts).

Now I know - after installation of the GTX880M - the temps in idle mode are about
36° Celsius (!) and goes up to 62° Celsius after a short Unigine Valley Benchmark test !

The card is fluid and fast and I hope that the card stands for month or years, but
the screen brightness is dimmed. I hope that I can use an AppleBacklightFixUp.KEXT
(or not) to solve the problem...

Native Brightness Control supported !

ATTN: you must edit the GPU heatpipe !

well, k3000m bios update for working now out of date?

from 01.18.2021 nothing happens....

i think this thread someday will be dead.
Hi, do you have this graphic card? can you try install manjaro linux? In my case i have black screen also with linux (the backlight wont but the image on the screen is present)

I did some duct work with good old electrical tape and paper board. Tried to make a lip seal at the top. I just did the sides so the back of the LCD would still have some air flow.

Valley benchmark increased a little. Maybe it is coincidence.

Valley is not completely consistent because it relies also on the CPU (load) and used. You will always have some variation in the results, it will be only stable under the same load...

Hello! After Black screen problems on my imac 27 2010 i7, I have changed the backlight and the problem continues so I am going to change the GPU. I have looked at this post and I also want to upgrade it. I use high sierra, I don't need catalina or anything, but I want to keep TDM (Target Display Mode). Seeing the list it says that it is only possible with GPU +(only Quadro?, the ++ does not support it? my preference was a 780m or an 880m .... but I'm not sure if they support TDM.
What do you think about the "Quadro K2100M" to make this improvement? better than 880M? always with the aim of keeping the "Tarjet Display Mode"

Hi. Can someone help me how to install graphic card Quadro 3000m on iMac 2010 27”?? I have try to just install it on it but it doesn’t work, just black screen. What should I do? Please someone help me with this. Thank you.

Use the search function for k3000m in this thread. You will see that the k3000m is problematic. Unless it's in your plan to develop solutions for the k3000m I recommend you get something else, see the first post for detail

Ok I will turn it back, I will lose some money but anyway. Do you recommend me any graphic card that can be the easiest one to install?
Thanks for answering.

I would check the first post. It really depends on what you are trying to accomplish. Video rendering? Replacing a broken 6000 series GPU? Games?

Easiest cards to install will be mxm-typeA cards. There really isn't a plug and play solution though.

You may start reading at the first post on the first page of this thread for a list of working cards.

so guys, I have a little gift for you to give back after such an incredible thread :D
hope you like it, the headaches to get it running were immens for me as a newb.

I couldn't stand it to use fckin windows to flash the cards and so I prepared this ~350mb drive

I created a Linux Live USB (based on grml.org) Thumb Drive with nvflash_linux and Nicks Bioses preloaded. and its booting by itself so you can work blind with a new unpatched nvidia card plugged in. Also, its starting a ssh daemon and using DHCP to get an IP so you can remote login :)

Steps

Download

14 days left to download, uploaded here: https://www.mediafire.com/file/cztz4xqj2sru9gj/2011_imac_usb.zip/file

mirror by NOTNICE, thnx: https://cloud.notnlce.com/index.php/s/xkJP34GD6a9WziE/download

Prepare USB Drive or SD Card
so, you take a small usb thumb drive, partition it with disk utility on a Mac: GPT + FAT32
and just unzip the files structure onto the drive, no dd or etcher or something. just copy paste it. folder structure see attached screenshot. (you can remove the .roms I downloaded and download itself if you want to be sure about the correct file size. I did not verify them at all. use/flash at your own risk please)

Test & Try
test your thumb drive with a more or less working GPU/ external Screen or just have faith in me

Swap Hardware
swap your GPU to NVIDIA and (!) disconnect every SSD/HDD, makes it easier to boot blindly from one USB or SD Card, connect the ETH Cable (!)

Find IP
let the iMac boot, everything is black, the boot loader is waiting 20s before booting, so give the whole process 1min time, then head over to your Router Page and find the right IP that the iMac got through DHCP

SSH to the iMac
now fire up your terminal on a Win/Mac/Linux Machine of your choice and ssh to your iMac with
ssh root@YOURIP
Password: flash
Confirm the ssh id with yes and you should be in your iMac

Working Directory
cd /lib/live/mount/medium/flash

read the RADME in there… I will enjoy my brand new k2000m in my 27" 2011 iMac with Catalina 10.15.3
… and because this is so easy, I rebuild it to a K1100M and flashed that also :D :D :)

(someone could write some fancy scripts but I thought its saver that everyone is doing it command by command and don't stop thinking and trusting some scripts)
Hi, newby here. Is this for 2011 only? I have a 27" mid 2010 2.93Ghz Quad core i7 and I have just installed a Nvidia GTX 780m GPU . The OS is Catalina which was running on my original ATI Radeon HD5750 1Gb (But not great) If I went back to High Sierra , would this help? I was hoping you could shed some light? TIA

Unless noted the posts cover all supported machines listed somewhere on the first post which includes your iMac.
You need to reinstall Catalina and avoid the legacy video patch - as noted on the first post, too.
Long story short: Read there and you will find everything!

Edit: You can run Mojave, Catalina and Big Sur on your now "metal" capable iMac. Welcome to the club!

Which Direct3d11 benchmark ? Have you a link of this benchmark ? I think macOS does not support Direct3D ?
Ah okay didnt know that. Its my first apple product since nearly 10 years....i just want to translate the opengl into real gaming performance because the pro versions always have issues in gaming. But anyhow surely ill find out soon. Thanks a lot! :)

You could point out the difference in temps. This is critical :)

Looked with search and don't find an answer.
Can I use my bluetooth keyboard to do my updating and run the Xanderon Linux flash or do I have to have a wired one? Seems simple, but I don't see it addressed.
Thanks!!

You are slightly off track here...

You will need a second Mac, PC, iPad with an SSH client and a cable connection from your iMac to your router. It is highly unlikely that your new GPU has already a BIOS loaded which may give you a picture on your internal or an external display connected to the iMac.

In that rare case you can use your own keyboard. Otherwise you will remotely enter the commands to flash the card.

Thanks! While I understood about getting the iMac's IP address from the router by using, for example, an iPad, I thought that entering the flashing commands was done on the machine being flashed (the iMac) because that's where the USB drive would be connected. The video I saw used an iMac with a wired keyboard to enter the commands. Hence my question as to whether I could use my Bluetooth one to do it. What am I missing here?

Forget the video - we have no video uploaded and the guys who made some took so many short cuts that these are ( IMHO) only a guide from an eagles perspective.

You might be able to enter commands using a directly connected keyboard, but if you have already connected from another device remotely to have a screen why not using the input devices connected to this computer? SSH is used to remote connect to other (UNIX) computer to start programs there using the local machine. That is the idea because we have in 99% of the case no working display on the iMac - without this SSH trick you would be blindly entering commands even if a keyboard would working. What is the advantage of this?

Thanks!!! 🤭🤭😬🙄 My mistake. Should have read the steps through completely. Since my iPad doesn't have a USB slot for my thumb drive I guess I'll have to use my Powerbook G4 (aka OLD!!). Thanks.

I did something alike but taped it as good as closed, nothing going to the LCD.
The 2 LCD temps in MacsFanControl stay both around 30°C to 35°. Well to be more precise, running a bench as I type to test. The first LCD temp is now at 32°c and LCD temp 2 is at 36°C.
ODD sensor was glued to the back of the heatsink with epoxy as Ausdauersportler explained some pages ago, thx for the tip btw. Works neat!

ODD fan & temp start to ramp up around 48°C and stays around 50 to 55°C. Heatsink fluctuates between 55 & 60°C.

edit: lol just noticed you / ChrisCaro were the one who asked me about the taping in the other topic. 🤣
