that sounds about right, ones i have done get from a few weeks to a few months extra life before the problem comes back, so i dont do them anymore...

I got my HD4850m reflown at a laptop repair shop. They had a reflow station which could focus the heat only to the graphic chip. But it didn't help. The card was still dead. Not a 100% successful solution.
A full reballing may be more effective. But judging from the cost of repair, I'd rather buy another card and hack the vBIOS, consider it as an upgrade.

So, some feedback. 27" iMac A1312 Mid 2011 is working great after heating the graphics board. Removed the graphics board, removed the heat sink, and added some solder flux to the edges of the gpu. Started 6" above the graphics board at 180C with an SMD solder rework station and moved in closer as time went on and the whole board came up to temperature. Total time was 4.5min. Last 30 sec, increased to 200C then let the board cool. Not quite liquid solder temp, but it worked perfectly.

I'm going to replace the HDD with an SSD to lower the internal heat and hopefully this will last a long time. I'll put a 800ohm resistor to fake the HDD temp sensor.

I would just buy different imac, a thin one ....

If the repair is possible and affordable I think it’s better to reuse what we have. It’s a shame the person you’re replying to hasn’t considered price as a factor in this.
I did consider it.... imacs like the one I recommended are cheap in my country. Its a shame people overcharge in your country .... Vietnam ?
