Cult of mac is now reporting that Lion will be released next Wednesday (7/6) at 9:00 AM PST

Anybody else starting to suspect we may see refreshed Macbook Airs, Minis, Mac Pros, and possibly macbooks all at the same time?
I certainly hope so! I've been waiting since February!

The way Apple updated the Macbook and iMac, it seems to be a given that the base Mac Mini will be i5-2410M, 4GB RAM, Superdrive, Thunderbolt, no discrete graphics, with otherwise the same design for $699. Only question in my mind is whether the hard drive will stay at 320GB or be bumped up to 500GB.

I agree. One would hope they'd bump up to 500GB. The cheapest P.O.S. PC has a terabyte.

P.O.S PC took the words right out of my mouth! MIni's are great and come with great software and people have done all kinds of stuff with em. The next one will be as great as the current one. Luv my Mini!:apple:

Not sure what's worse - that spec being less than the laptop I bought my kids to do homework on (same CPU but it has discrete graphics), or that I'd be really happy with that same spec :p

Don't care about the HDD as it'll be a HTPC using only a fraction, but 500GB makes sense

One thing that is apparent reading all of these threads and that is Apple are masters at creating speculation and anticipation for a product. It's an ad-man's dream and something money just can't buy.

Who else but Apple could create such an atmosphere for what is after all a bog standard mediocre spec'd headless computer? ;)

can't be good for their sales though when the speculation starts earlier and earlier? At this rate you'll get 3 months sales of a new mac before the next 'waiting for refresh' thread..

Well if Apple made real meaningful updates each time there would be less fuel for the rumor fire.
Personally Apple can do whatever they want to all of their iPods, iPads, iPhones, laptops, iMacs, Mini and Mac Pro and I'll still be wanting an xMac.
I may settle for the Mini or if I win the Lotto buy the Mac Pro but I'll still be wishing for something in between.:D

Theoretically it's possible to make a second module with a discrete GPU (like sony's Power Dock) that uses the TB port. I'll keep on dreaming.

edit: you can also connect the unit to MBP 13 and the upcoming MBA's

I am imagining Apple engineers ...

I am imagining Apple engineers and product managers reading this thread and laughing about all ours desires, dreams, knowledge and so on! Now talking seriously as a market research, those discussions bring a lot to them what the costumers are expecting from their products, of course, we should consider that they have a very clear roadmap where Apple products should be positioned in the market and in the technology near future, but also they are reading our comments and sometimes (as totally personal opinion) they could take more time to lunch a new model considering a “wise” considerations on our discussions, just to add my two cents.

Even a 2009 used mini will be plenty. Current mini is probably faster than my original unibody MacBook pro which I use daily. We're mostly just moaning that it doesn't have the latest and greatest tech in it.

Definitely, a "2099" used mini (from the future) will be sufficient! LOL!

I know it was a typo. Just kidding!

3200-kiloqubit quantum processor, an integrated four-terapixel free space holographic projector, internal cold fusion fuel cell rated for five decades of continuous operation, and all this in a package 2mm x 10cm x 10cm. What's there not to like?

Although it sounds like a science fiction, it is quite likely that this kind of computers can be realized before 2099. If it turns out to be true, then this thread on the Mac Mini really becomes a prophet!
