Well, just to sport some data. I've found Geekbench results for the 13" early 2011 MacBook Pro for the 64-bit test on both OS X 10.10.5 and 10.11 (obviously still on beta). And by the results (despite the fact that the second one has 10GB of RAM vs the one running Yosemite that has 16GB) I wouldn't say El Capitan is that much optimised on this model...

I know this has nothing to do with GPU performance but it gives a glimpse at how the beta for El Capitan doesn't seem to be that optimised on this machine so far.

That there is interesting. It feels like it runs smoother overall but battery performance hasn't changed and my fan runs at full all the time playing Modern Warfare where on Yosemite it would cycle between fast and slow, indicating a more efficient processor load.

I wonder if that'll change by the final release.

I'm running El Capitan on my Early-2011 13 MBP and it runs much better than Yosemite ever did. Don't quite feel its up to Mavericks yet. I'm thinking of upgrading to an SSD soon, so tat should make a difference.

An SSD makes a world of difference. One of those things where once you try it you can't go back. Don't think, just do it.

I will second eicca's comment - SSD is a big improvement - recently installed a Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB in my mid 2012 15" - super fast and like having a totally new computer! Put the old drive in a $20 usb enclosure and can boot from the old Yosemite version when I need to (not often).

I'd like someone to pitch in with how it performs as compared to Mavericks in terms of speed, reliability and animations.

The Yosemite comparisons are OK but Yosemite was a piece of turd on 2011 hardware to begin with.

So if Apple really did something magical with El Cap, it should at least perform at par or even better than Mavericks. Otherwise, for me personally, it's better to stick with Mavericks on my 2011 13" MBP.

Can someone comment on the performance of the latest El Capitan GM on early 2011 MBP 13"?
Cheers

Do not know about early 2011 13", but late 2011 15" is performing just as good as ever. No lag introduced due to software. Only improvements seen so far across the board.

El Cap is running great on my Early 2011 13" MBPro!

So glad I upgraded Yosemite to the GM.

I'm not taking the time to technically measure performance, but I haven't felt any negative feelings about the performance. And I'm typically pretty sensitive to such issues.

Do you feel like you can afford turn off 'reduce transparency' now on El Capitan GM? Is there a noticeable reduction in performance if transparency is left on?

I'm on Yosemite 10.10.5 and feel like there is a stark improvement in performance if I turn on 'reduce transparency'; so I keep transparency off in order to maximise performance. Is this your experience on El Capitan?

What about the stability/performance of the preview application? Do you get the occasional freeze/crash/lag as you would on Yosemite?

Cheers

I've got transparency running at full blast and it's not as smooth as a newer machine by any means but it's not gross looking either. Just slightly less-smooth. Running the GM
