Failure #2... This time the listing explicitly stated it was the "CAX" card. the pictures showed CAX too (though they look to be stock photos). But naturally they sent the "AX" card. I'm about ready to just give up on this and live with what I have...

I ordered the correct one here:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/200910020950?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

It says BCM94331PCIEBT4CAX in the title, and shows it in the picture.

as for the OS-Store listing shown earlier in the thread, I mentioned a while back that the one in the picture is not the correct one, in an attempt to warn other buyers. I did not buy from os-store, but the picture on their listing clearly shows without the CAX, it shows a 607-7291 and does not show CAX in the listing.

The link I posted is even three dollars cheaper. I ordered on July 7th and got it (from China) on the 10th.

Did you get the correct card? I finally got mine today from this exact listing and they sent me the "AX" card.

I think I got the correct card, but I still cannot figure out to to initiate contact between the iPhone 5 and the MacBook Pro.

Are you returning the item / opening a not as described dispute with the seller?

For what it is worth, I got the correct card from OS-Store.

I think the best approach is to explicitly message the seller in advance to ask them to check that it is indeed the CAX card and not AX.

You could send them something like this to help:

So, I purchased the CAX model from eBay and it arrives yesterday. I installed it and the MBP doesn't detect any BT/WiFi hardware installed at all. The card is installed correctly. I put the old one back, works fine. Put new one in again, it tells me I have no hardware. Does it sound like I got a bad card from the seller?

Did you guys need to zap your PRAM or reset SMC or anything? Or did it just work?

Yes I will be returning it. Os-store sent me the wrong one the first time i ordered it. Then another ebay seller sent me the wrong one too. Hopefully they will exchange it for the correct card. And thank you for that image. that will be extremely helpful when I try and find a seller with the right product.

Same auction sent me the "AX" card as well. Novoshopping should be avoided for this. I have filed a dispute.

It seems that most places are very hit and miss when it comes to sending the correct card. I bought one off ebay from Ovolink that was supposed to be 100% the correct one but received the wrong one.
I contacted them but haven't heard back yet. We'll see what happens.

I'm trying to work out a return and exchange for the correct part with ovolink. I contacted Novoshopping as well about their card and they said when ordering to make a note that it has the CAX serial number and their warehouse will be notified to check it before shipping.

Also, any changes on the situation for those with access to Developer Preview 4?

Let me know if you have any luck with Ovolink. I think we're in the same situation on trying to get our parts replaced with the proper ones.

If anybody is interested in what Apple changed with DP3, there are now board id checks for the 802.11n (BCM4331 and BCM4353) parts in a canLoad() function in the KEXT:

__dev0x4331ValidLoadDriverBoardIds and __dev0x4353ValidLoadDriverBoardIds

With DP4. Handoff is indeed working however you must repeat the process of replacing the IO80211 file

Wow, someone at Apple is really serious about this hobby modding thing. :)

I think we all accept that it is reasonable to require the extra functionality that Bluetooth 4.0 bring to the table over 2.1 + EDR for the new features in Yosemite (10.10).

The KEXT change in DP3, however, is certainly not customer friendly and feels underhanded to me as Apple clearly only need to check for the hardware features being available and should not be hard coding acceptable logic board ids in to the driver to lock upgraded devices out.

They surely must know that some of their users with the 2011 MBP models will have something like a Computer Science or Software Engineering background, or just experience, and can pick these locks within the binaries, certainly expose them. It seems misguided, in my opinion. The users who make or want to make this change are likely tech savvy, relatively few in number, and perfectly capable of researching the issue to know that they need to use a modified KEXT.

Apple did not lock devices out that were upgraded with a newer wireless card to support AirDrop, why do this now for these features?

Good to know! Now if i can just get the right freaking card... haha

Hopefully all the sellers who have sent the wrong card and subsequently get returns will start to appreciate the difference between the two models so that it gets easier to buy the right thing.

I wonder if we will see supply dry up once Yosemite ships?
