By summer, apple will release Mac OS lion. None of macs are going to come with lion. it will come with SL. How much will be the upgrade? Probably 129 dollars.

Apple will offer back to school promo again and offer ipod touch for free. It retails for 229 dollars. Even if you are not student, you can find someone who is in your family..

129+229=That's like 350 dollars you could have saved. If you don't want iPod touch, you can always sell it ebay and you can get like 200 dollars for unopened item.

Apple has a good chance of updating MBA by WWDC 2010. So, what does it mean!?

I don't think it's the time to buy MBA or any macs until summer 2011. I am not trying to piss off early buyers, but those of you who are holding out for better specs or w/e. What do you all think?

If you are rich people, then fine. Good for you all, but I don't think anyone can laugh at 350-400 dollars. When it comes to buying MBA, I think it is best to wait. Thoughts?

I can already feel the laser beams are going to come at me from early buyers.

i wont be purchasing lion, i will be downloading it free of charge from the multitude of online websites available. number 2. You can always wait for things and there is always something new coming. I buy the new thing, wait for the next new thing, buy that and sell my old thing. Instead of spending money on things like applecare i instead use that money to buy the next-gen product.

If it were February - April right now than you might have a point but considering the length of time your talking about waiting to get some deals I'd rather buy now and enjoy my new product. Aside from that I already got a new iPod touch with the iMac I bought in the summer... but I sold cause I have an iphone 4 :p

I don't have a MBA so am not biased here.

Look at the MBA Buyer's Guide. A refresh is definitely not going to happen by summer 2011.

Snow Leopard was cheap. Very cheap. It will be more like $40 or so for Lion, Apple OS updates are nowhere near as expensive as Windows.

And for the iPod Touch deal, yes you can save some money by getting a free iPod, but it's ages away. Hardly worth it.

I agree! I was thinking the same, but I just can't wait. Needed one now.

By this logic, you should never buy a Mac other than when the Back to School promo is running.

It's because both school promo and lion are coming out almost same time. That's all. Last year, I just bought it because SL was only 30 dollars. I have feeling that Lion will be almost 99 dollars or higher like 129 dollars.

First - I personally don't think waiting until some undisclosed date of summer '11 is worth holding out on a notebook purchase if you need or want one now. Who's to say there won't be any delays anyway? Even if it came out immediately when summer begins, that's 7-8 months away!

Second - No, not everybody is a student or has one at their disposal to use to get a student discount. I've been out of college for eight years, have no other students in our family now, and have no friends that are students. There goes that super savings.

Third - You really think there's going to be a refresh by WWDC? That's probably around just eight months from now.

Fourth - What's being rich got to do with anything? You don't have to be rich to afford one of these things. Some people save money to purchase things. Some people sell their older products to help subsidize new purchases. Some people just have a decent job. What's $300-400 over the course of a year when there *might* be a refresh... $0.82 - $1.10/day. I bet plenty of people spend that kind of money (or more) every day buying coffee before work, etc.

It will be the same price as Snow Leopard, Apple never raises their price standards.

Uh.....
Leopard to Snow leopard was really just minor update.
But, SL to lion seems like a lot more. So... 29 dollars sound like real dream.

Wrong! I've looked at historical trends and concluded that the best time to get the MBA is 2025. By then people will be simply giving it away for free, much like how you can't give away a 486DX or a Mac SE right now. You must be pretty rich to spend $1000+ when you can get it for free by waiting.

And I really doubt they wouldnt ship new Macs with Lion once it releases. I think a month after SL came out they were shipping with that?

Not everyone is a student. There will always, ALWAYS be something around the corner.

Once you join the waiting game, you will always be part of it.

By this logic, you should never buy a computer because 8 months later there will always be a better one for less money than the one you have.

I sold my scratched (thanks to Incase Slider Cases) 3GS for more than when I paid for my iPhone 4. And I plan on doing the same when the next and best iPhone comes out

It all depends on an individuals needs, Certainly someone who wants the MBA or needs a new computer is not going to wait around 7-8 months just to save $500 bucks. This makes sense for someone who has no need for a new computer right now though. But I dont think it has anything to do with being rich, cheap, or broke.... just a matter of need and want.

But if it's so important to save $350, surely it's just as important to save $229, right? Therefore you should only buy Macs during the promo.
