It's been rock solid since having this done. I'm convinced the internal power supply was failing, causing the sporadic shutdowns.

Thanks uptownnyc for your documentary work

Here I'm having sporadic reboots with Kernel Panic since last Spring.

I own a late 2012 iMAC 27 without fusion drive. I updated it with RAM and SSDs years of hardworking and running like clockwork, solid as a rock.

One year ago, after sporadics Shutdowns I found the solution by changing the power supply (I bought a LiteON one because Apple had two suppliers, this problem is documented). After he shutdown I had to wait several minutos even hours to switch on the computer.

As said, now I'm suffering sporadicks reboots since I updated to Catalina 10.15.7 even with the new power supply. Unfortunately this will be the last OSX update for our machines.

Still working your iMac?

I'm afraid that I will buy a new mac sooner than later

Yeah, still working.
My internal SSD started showing it's age and I switched to using an external SSD as my boot disk a while back. I'm also on Catalina 10.15.7.

I'm waiting for the M2 refresh of the Mac Studio and I'll probably make the leap to a new machine then.
