Where in the UK?

I made the same choice. I picked up a 2.3 quad on the way home from work and plan to upgrade to a ssd and upgrade the ram.

FWIW I use the same setup (2.3 quad, 16gb ram, ssd) at work for iOS development and it frickin' SCREAMS.

Where did you pick it up from in the UK? Which shop... I'm interested in doing the same.

okay decision made. Just ordered a 2012 i7 Quad 2.6 4gb/1tb. I will upgrade the ram and hd to ssd myself but think i will be happy with this mini. There are still 2012 available in the UK if anyone is interested.

Where did you order your new Mac Mini from? I'm in the UK also and am considering making the same decision.

I paid £720 for mine, not really a saving but they have better deals on some of the other models. £646 for a 2.3 i7 with 256 SSD is a good deal if you're not worried about a large capacity SSD. They have a handful left in stock.

Not great prices tbh. I contacted my local Apple store and they have some 2.3 quads left and have dropped the price to £569, which I'm very tempted by, but I want to see if I can my hands on a 2.6 ideally.

Ok - I'll give the Apple stores near me a ring after work. I've noticed the price on eBay has gone up over the last few days. There were 92 people watching this one particular model! I guess everyone is trying to buy them up while they still can.

If prices on the 2012 mini's go up I would definitely look at putting that money in a 2009 Mac Pro. You can get ton's more performance than you could ever squeeze out of that mini for about the same money.

Most people get the Mac Mini because of the small form factor I imagine.

The new Mac Pro is a pretty small form factor now. Most of these people are complaining because they can play anymore without paying more. It's like those hobbyist photographers complaining about Photoshop being so expensive.

Well I just phoned my local Apple store and they have a few 2012 2.3 Quads still in stock at 569.00.

I guess the question is, will it be cheaper getting it from Apple with Apple Care or eBay now!

Those who just absolutely need the quad mac mini is a very very very small minority. The real limiting factor of the mini is the GPU even though it's improved a lot.

I'm in the US. Sorry! I just picked mine up at a local electronics retailer.

So with maxed out RAM (I know, too expensive) and the newer Intel HD 5000 graphics, does that make it a good buy compared to 2012 model with HD 4000 graphics but in a machine with replaceable RAM?

The benches online show different things and maybe the HD 5000 does not negate that this mini can't be upgraded. I don't do gaming but they seem to fight online over the merits of 5000 over the 4000 in real world applications.

I think you are better off overall going with the midrange 2.3Ghz and Iris GPU rather than max out ram on the base model.

I thought about that, too. Thanks for the recommendation.

I know there's 4000, then the maybe faster 5000, and this "Iris" thing. Is it that much better? I don't care about benches in magazines which are often advertising, but real world user experiences.
