I'd wager 67 to 33 that the Mac Pro line will be discontinued at WWDC. It's just no longer important for Apple.

The Imac is fine for making Iphone apps. No business case at Apple for anything better.

I wonder how they'd do such a thing. Actually announce it or, just continue to let the 2013 machine wither on the vine for a couple more years until quietly removing it from stores.

I don't see the nMP going away any time soon as Apple is already have invested in FCPX and the nMP for the unseeable future.

Plus Apple's fairly recent investment in Camel Audio and more recent major feature updates for Logic Pro X. Though the percentage of people who use Logic Pro X with Mac Pros compared to other Apple computers is probably small now. A person having fun playing around with loops money is just as good as a serious hobbiest's or a pro's money.

Don't know much about Logic, but its good to know.

they use them at apple HQ.
or- at least the design team uses them but i'd assume many of the other depts (developers/photo/ad/video/etc) use them as well. (source: recent tv program showing the inside of design sector.. mac pros were on the desks running Alias for mac)

idk, from my perspective, it's pretty cool that one of (or the?) the largest companies in the world are doing their industrial design work on mac with software tailored to os x.

..because ten years ago, this wouldn't really be possible.

anyway, i'm pretty sure apple completely remembers that they still have a mac pro in the lineup..

that said, they'd probably be fine if the imac was their highest end machine at HQ (assuming they had a cluster or two to for certain jobs.. but they probably use these clusters anyway.. even with a mac pro at the desk)
It would probably be cooler if the people working at Apple were actually given a choice to use something more robust and they stuck with the MacPro.

I wouldn't assume anything about Apple's MacPro usage, according to their advertising, all you need is an iPhone. Haven't seen an actual Mac ad in a long time. I know they remember that they make iMacs because they occasionally use the word "Thinner" at media events.

Ten years ago, MacPro performance was closer to parity with PCs, only being hamstrung by the lousy GPU choices at the time (what else is new?). There was certainly software available to do product design, though not the wide array of choices available for PC.

Recent FCP X preview (under NDA) could point to an audio overhaul, with things like roles based mixing. Don't see Apple abandoning FCP X anytime soon .

I am sure there will be a next Mac Pro. And Macbook Pro. And Mac Mini. And MB Air... or a similar replacement with a new name. The whole Mac line is old, and software is half baked (Metal, old openCL/ -GL). Pro app rumors suggest that something big is coming. I hope this WWDC will open up the mystery.

I expect a big change to OS X and how it's used and that it brings a new approach for hardware - hence no upgrades. Recents Apple patents: Movable Illuminated MacBook Trackpad, login to Mac with iDevices' TouchID, Hover-Sensing Multi-Touch 3D pointing Display, Three Dimensional User Interface Session Control using Depth Sensors, Pressure-sensitive switch-less QWERTY input mechanism keyboard, reconfigurable MacBook with configurable, force-sensitive input structures, keyboard with Multiple Colored LEDs, Liquidmetal's alloys, eye-tracking technology used to control a user interface, Stylus/pointing device with motion-sensing hardware, including accelerometers, Inductive Charging Between iOS Devices, Watch & MacBook, Automatic Shutter System that will protect iDevice and Mac Ports from Moisture or Dirt, protocol to support parallel processing with low latency, Virtual reality stuff*, a Stereo System with an Adaptive Room Equalization Feature...

*(Apple has filed a multiple patents for VR & AR, even for OS X user interface, has bought companies making software products for VR & AR. Finacial Times reported, that Apple has a large team that is experimenting with headsets and other technologies. Apple hired Doug Bowman, one of the U.S.' leading virtual reality experts. Tim Cook said that he does not believe that virtual reality is a niche. "It's really cool," he said. "And it has some interesting applications.")

My point here is that Apple still invests on Mac innovations and something new is coming up.

Would it be finally an OS wide support for DSP. All recent Radeon GPU's come with a DSP and Apple has also its own what they've been using in their ARM SOC's.

Not sure why Phil Shiller would introduce the 2013 model saying they'd picked a new design "for the next 10 years" only to cancel it after 3. But then I guess businesses have to look at the value proposition of investing time into developing new models for a small percentage of their revenue stream. But then it wouldn't be so small if they actually bothered to keep pace with hardware and software developments..

I mean, internally they might suggest stopping development of the Mac Pro line based on waining popularity, but people only buy your product if they know about it. I always feel quite sad when they show promotional material for their computer hardware and the Mac Pro is always missing. Not to mention how minimal/absent it is from stores when you visit them. Most people probably don't even recognise it, given its radically different form factor.

That gives rise to a sad realisation that only people who already know about it are the ones likely to buy it. When actually there's probably a good deal of people whose workloads would run far better on a Mac Pro than an iMac, but they have no idea Apple even make something like that.

In a similar fashion, I still lament the loss of the Xserve too. Again, ok, people weren't buying loads. But OS X was just coming to the fore, and it's still being adopted more and more; in education and in business. The Xserve might have been expensive, but like any Apple product, there are always people who can justify the expense knowing the quality of the product they're getting.

There are solid cues on Apple Resurrecting it's servers, at least for internal demand they are doing R&D on new rack-based servers for Apple's own infraestucrure, its an priority, google “Project McQueen” , but maybe this McQueen Xserve being more like an custom HPE MoonShoot blade cluster (even on actual HPE Racks) than classic old 3U Xserve Rack, and running on ARM cpus also, but maybe they leak at some point to Apple's mainstream.

The problem with OSX Server, it lags far behind most NASes funcionality, I Own two Synology NAS I use for Sharing, Backup and running my own apps on Docker, you have tons of functionality almost ready to use on a cheap very optimized NAS, even TimeMachine and AppleTalk, also I'm considering to replace at least on of my DS1515 with qnap Thunderbolt Nas/Das, OSX Server still have few advantages over Nases (tha's why I ve OSX server on a Mac Mini) but compeling to vey few users.

A Revamped Mac Mini paired with large DAS via thunderbolt also could do the XServe role for too many users (as I'm considering to pair my mini with an QNap Thunderbolt Nas/DAS), very very few needs an Xserve on Xeon, but with new Skylake Xeon Apple Also could launch a Mac Mini with Xeon and ECC memory (ecc memory its an must for servers with raid storage, it avoids lots of false alarms)..

Yes - my thought is that the topic is "2016 nMP update", but you want it to be about Pascal because you found (or your handlers found) a single benchmark on which AMD does well.

For which you post one image with no context and no link to the full report. Perhaps you've noticed that I usually include links to the full story on my posts - so that you can read the details, and if I've misinterpreted something you can call me out for a correction. (And if the report has Nvidia losing on 9 out of 10 tests - I wouldn't dare post the 10th test where Nvidia wins.)

I consider selective cutting and pasting of items like this, without links to the original, to be intellectually dishonest.
You didn't seen there that GTX 1080 is slower than GTX 980 Ti and Titan X in OpenCL compute benchmark, did you?

It is quite funny. You guys see that I post things related to AMD even if all I did is asked why GTX 1080 is slower in Lexmark 3.1 than GTX 980 Ti and Titan X. Any thoughts?

Out of other news: http://ranker.sisoftware.net/show_r...efdce4dde4d5e5c3b18cbc9aff9aa797b1c2ffc7&l=en

around 5.8 teraflops then, could be a competitor to 1070, but then we can see a story of furyX vs 980ti again. FuryX was good, but 980ti overclocks a lot and trashes furyx, except few dx12 titles.

Im thinking you didn't understand the article and you got caught trying to alter public opinion with an anomalous result by not including rest of tests or link to the tests.

Either you truly don't understand English or you were being manipulative.

Apple Pencil is coming soon to a mac near you, but will not touch your screen but your Magic Touchpad 2...
http://www.appleworld.today/blog/20...mac-touch-screen-combo-media-playback-syncing

Reading at WCtech (aka WCCFTech) Amd stands its first Zen CPU will be Available at October.
http://wccftech.com/amd-zen-competes-intel-performance-features-price-launching-2016/
Surprise, 8 core version only 95W TDP IPC comparable to Skylake -which means better than brothel-ep-, 8 core in october 16,24/32 core later, market Enthusiast/Gamers-HPC-Servers.

Curious, coincide with major availability predictions on the u-nMP, also with Vega availabilty, maybe the u-nMP being built arround ZEN/Vega.... FULL AMD MAC PRO INMINENT ?

Could be ther an n-MP on Zen with Polaris-Pro/XT and Vega as replacement for Xeon/D300/D500/D700, curious how launch dates coincide.

At least Apple shoud sell this AMD-TrashCan-Mac-pro cheaper given Zen cpu pricing, the bad at least this year no 16 core u-nMP.

So... A workstation build around an unproven CPU architecture... Smell like the G5 debacle again...

They must have had a meeting to brainstorm ways they could make the current design even less competitive.

Mago, read a while back and almost posted it too. But I doubt Zen ill make it to the nMP. And I don't think the server parts will be ready this soon.
I'd prefer to see the Xeon in there honestly.

It's highly possible that the iMac will have a Pro model once they can get a decent wide gamut display suitable for all workflows and a Thunderbolt 3 expansion capability to make everyone happy. A three PCIE slot mini tower with drive bays connected to an iMac? Not bad.

First batch of Zen cpu its aimed at Workstations/Enthusiast, Server Specific parts will come later but I doubt Apple would put a 32 Core Cpu (given AMD don't fear Climate Change sure will be a 180W TDP part).

Better Is that Zen Will Support PCIe4 from start, matched with PCIe4 GPUs has bandwidth to spare for whatever you wanna do.

Zen still x86/amd64 architecture, no change, My only fear is AMD record on delivering what they promised.

I'm sure this year comes another update to the iMac on Skylake, Skylake allows Xeon Cpu on the same socket, and chipset shares same pinout arrangement so its possible to simplify assembly lines and using the same PCB produce motherboards with Xeon or Core i chipset, I doubt Apple will improve the 5K Panel unless this update come from the panel manufacturer and not on Apple commission.
