A couple of more videos for the fan noise on my 2017 27" 3.4, 570, 512gb SSD machine. Is this normal fan noise for 1200rpm?

I rarely sit 3 inches behind my iMac so, no, I don't hear that much fan noise. All kidding aside, my I7 top spec machine is very quiet in a normal seated position. I really don't even notice the fan until I fire up HandBrake and encode a Blu-Ray rip. Then it ramps up to 2700 rpm and that is noticeable but not as loud as my 2012 Mac mini or older MBP under the same conditions. Given there isn't anything else to reference or compare to in your video, I'd say that probably is a normal sound for the fan at idle with a microphone that close to the fan. No squealing or unusual sounds.

Ok, yours is def as looud as mine if not louder.. hard to tell.
I listened to a 2011 and a 2012 iMac while both had multiple programs open and another time when they were rendering.
At idle both were quieter than mine. When rendering one of them was just as loud or söightly louder than mine.
Definitely going to return mine. Pray for me that the replacement wont have this issue.

i will say it again, you guys definitely have a problem on your iMac.
With normal task (word, safari, itune, mail) you shouldn't hear ANYTHING (probably a whisper if you are in a soundproof room or you have your ear on the back of the iMac).
At 1200rpm is way too quiet to even notice and you won't be able to hear it with a phone recording because the microphone noise would be louder.
Either you have a problem or the fan in the base model is different from the top iMac.

i'm sitting at my desk and the imac is roughly 2ft away from me and i can clearly hear the wind wooshing out of the fan.

could it be the ssd? i've read every single thread on this so far and i haven't seen any reports of this with the fusion drive.
