My 2017 iMac Pro started making odd rattling sounds a few weeks ago that would start when waking it up and they would stop after a short period of time. The sounds are now persisting and happening as I type this. I googled and I have read about others complaining about the same issue, including here https://www.reddit.com/r/applehelp/comments/iq15wj
here is a recording of my computer, which sounds like the one in the link above http://sndup.net/dfv3

however, I am not seeing a fix mentioned or a cause.

1. Is this likely the fan going out?
2. Is there a way to tell if the fan has completely stopped working?
3. If it did go out or is going out, should I completely stop using the computer, or is it ok to use it in limited amounts until getting it fixed?

Thanks

Sounds like the fan is going south. When it completely fails. Your computer will get much hotter and likely overheat.

As for using it. You never know with fans. It could stop working in the next hour or keep running like that for years. I’d get it replaced as soon as possible.
