I wish they would just throw us a bone.... a teaser, a date, anything to perk some interest and get the tastebuds wanting!
I'm with you. All we get these past few weeks, is Iphone this, iPhone that. I'm starting to be tired to hear all the time, about the same device.

News about other Apple devices is going to be a breath of fresh air. That includes iWatch.

I do not know if anyone has spotted this, but there is no desktop CPU available with HD 580. So it appears that iMac 4K will finally have decent GPU option, if Apple plans any upgrade over previous generation, at all.

I wish there will be one high end GPU option, just like in iMac 5K. I hope they will not settle for midrange chip, and will give at least the option of speccing it to the relative high-end performance.

Sure there is, check out the Core i7 6785R.

I'd honestly be surprised if it wasn't a 7700K (or whatever unlocked high end they are using at the time). Although I'm kind of surprised they even offer the K series. I can only assume they do this because its not cheaper for them? Intel fluffs sales? Whatever I'll take it.

HOWEVER.....Intels i9 is on its way (reportedly launching in August). I assume this is Intels answer to Ryzen with higher core mainstream CPU's.

Excuse this shady rumor esque image...Click

Something I could benefit from however don't really need. But that would be a good addition to a "Pro" model don't you think?

With TDPs ranging from 140w (6/8 core) to 160w (10/12 core), they are far too hot for the current iMac.

The iMac Pro is almost certainly going to use E3 series 4 core Xeons as they are the same TDP as the current 4 core i7 units so no changes for cooling will be required.

They may well be for the 'current' iMac. I won't dismiss these until the new computer is launched as they may re-design it to allow for these types of processors. I would love to see an 8 core option, although in reality I am a pro customer who is sick of waiting, so will grasp any straws to hope something amazing will come out.

Having said that, it will probably go thinner and get a laptop CPU :)

It would have to be a pretty significant re-design and we'd likely already be seeing manufacturing leaks - remember the new MacBook Pro case leaked some six-plus months before the device was offered for sale.

Also, a 6 or 8 core iMac is going to encroach on the new Mac Pro's territory, which I believe will start at 6 cores and offer 8 / 10 / 12 / 16 core options.

It is getting into pro territory but they did say an iMac that is more pro.

We will see I guess. The MacBook Pro is much more high profile than the iMac, and cant actually recall seeing iMac chassis leaks before? Can you remember seeing this on the last re-design. No desktops seem to get leaks from my memory.

It would be nice to not have to wait to 2018 for a decent desktop mac - but probably will have to, and you are most likely right.

They could wait for 6 core coffee lake chips. They are supposed to launch in the august time frame and would probably fit in the existing thermal envelope.

Yes, but E3 Xeons and ECC memory is "pro" for a number of industries that do not focus on maximizing CPU or GPU performance (which is where the new Mac Pro will cover).

The curent iMac chassis is four years old, so there has been nothing to leak. Also, the focus on using the supply chain to ferret out new or refreshed Apple products is far more prevalent now than it was four or five years ago so the opportunity to find something is much, much higher now.

I would disagree on your second point as the focus is the phones and laptops not desktops. I don't recall any leaks 4 years ago for the current chassis [when there was more focus on desktops], and I doubt there will be any now. The mac pro was the same. To most it is not really very exciting so why would someone risk their job over a picture most people don't care about?

If I recall there were no MacBook leaks, no new iPad images so far and just the one accurate MacBook Pro leak chassis leak, so my money is on no iMac leak.

You are correct, the MacBook Pro 2016 was the only new model that leaked, that was last year and the only reason it leaked was because it had the Touch Bar at the top which was different, otherwise it probably would of gone by unnoticed. The reason Mac's don't get leaked that often is because they tend to look the same (such as the iMac with it's really thin frame for the last few years). The original 12" MacBook was leaked but again that was only because it was new. iMac's won't leak because it's VERY difficult to take a photo of the bigger computer without being seen.

EDIT: i sometimes wonder if it's Apple themselves who leak some of these things, if you look at the type of car in the photo's of the 12" MacBook leak you will notice it is not a cheap car, without being nasty or anything but i doubt workers at the factory's could afford one of those cars, plus it would be very difficult to get the screen from that MacBook out of the factory .http://www.iclarified.com/46711/leaked-photos-of-rumored-12inch-macbook-air-lid-and-display

Well of course the phones get the most focus because that is where the majority of Apple's revenue comes from and each new model is critically important to Apple's financial health.

But the iMac has not changed for almost five years so there has been nothing to leak. And by building the Mac Pro in the United States in a single facility, Apple had much stronger control over the supply chain than they do over the Chinese supply chain.

Anyway, I do not expect the 2017 iMac to look any different from the 2012 iMac, so I believe there is nothing to leak in terms of chassis design.

To have leaks of the new imac ,that means, mass production is on the way...so i think, if, we get a new design, and the imac will be released in October, than, leaks of parts or something, we will see in September at earliest

I think that they will do redesign. They have to put the USB-C/TB3 ports. I don't think that they will only change the ports without new look of the body. Probably they will make a new iMac. I hope it will be upgradeable, at least the bigger model.

Totally. Almost 100% guaranteed it will be a new design. How much it changes is debatable, but reduced bezel and new ports are pretty much certainties.
I doubt it will be upgradeable though, except for RAM still if we are lucky.

All I hope is they work out how to get better desktop components into it without increasing the size too much and also not overheating. It is a challenge for sure.

A re-designed iMac is likely in the works, but my guess is that (iMac Pro) is coming next year. The current iMac would simply get a speed bumped processor in the summer/fall.

As for size, they may need to go thicker if they plan on beefing up the internals which would need space for cooling. I could see a bezel-less display but only on the top, and sides. The lower 'chin' would remain to keep some visual interest.
No, not only has Phil Schiller said they'll be out this year, but I've also said that numerous times before as this has been the plan for a long time.

Technically the CPU and hard drive will be if you're willing to give up the warranty and open it up, but I hope upgradeable RAM will stay and not just be reserved for the professional tier (which is a possibility), but I think Apple are now realising that they don't need to lock down their desktop Macs so much because they can do that with phones and iPads, and MacBooks which general consumers are likely to get more than a desktop. The people who buy a desktop want power, and the upgrade ability can be a selling point over getting a MacBook.

If they can reduce bezel in same size form meaning bigger screen or smaller size is welcoming but I don't mind they increase the thickness in order to better fit desktop components.

I don't mind them thickening it up either and I am super fussy. In the end of the day if they are releasing a more 'pro' iMac, whatever that means, you would hope they fit in better desktop components. However, I don't think they will increase the size at all, and try and squeeze in whatever they can. If anything, it will probably get thinner !
