Sorry - don’t mean to call you out, specifically, but I find it dishonorable to sell a known-defective iPad to someone else. I let mine (12.9”) die on its own from this unresponsive screen issue, without attempting to pass it off on some unsuspecting secondhand buyer.
Would it be dishonorable if it was to Apple as a trade in?

And do you drive every car til it dies on its own as well? Do you trust every used car salesman?

Even if every 2nd gen 12.9" owner sold their defective unit to some unsuspecting secondhand buyer, it is on the buyer to research, test, and try the product before handing out their money.

Don't be quick to pass judgment without assessing both sides equally.

So you want to blame the secondhand buyer for trusting you and for NOT being capable of ascertaining there is a problem with the unit in the couple of minutes they have with it when you meet them at Starbucks to pass the iPad/cash to each other?

So, yes, I will pass judgement on that behavior.

I never said I sold it to an individual. I resell my products back to Apple so they can deal with the issue themselves. I recently traded my Watch 4 to Apple for the 6.

So pass judgment on whoever you want on the internet without the full details. I judge those kinds of people too at the end. ?

First I’ve heard of Apple buying back used out-of-warranty devices. Why do they do that?

Crazy, right? They'll even give you money for your Android devices

It's plastered all over their site; you pretty much can't buy a product now without seeing a "Trade in your old device" option on the order page.

Then for people who do that, I have no issue. But i regularly see others in the threads on the unresponsive screen issue who sell them. And I’m willing to bet that very few mean sell to Apple (present company excluded).

Fair point, and I agree with you that many on this forum are probably selling these types of devices to unwitting buyers. But I've done the same as @ejin222 and sent my 2nd gen. 12.9" iPad back to Apple for a gift card.

At the end of the day, it's Apple who doesn't acknowledge the faulty screens. Whether or not someone purchases it directly from Apple or a secondhand buyer, it's a crapshoot. I had to replace mine once under Apple and when it happened the second time, I couldn't take it. Thankfully, I was able to get a free Beats headphone to help offset the cost of the device.

Yes - the core of the problem is Apple and their faulty engineering and failure to own up to the issue. I‘m just not willing to pass a known issue along to another buyer just to spare myself the pain. Apple needs to feel the pain, not some random person just trying to buy a secondhand iPad they can afford.

Any Steps / How to to check for the Unresponsive Screen bugs mentioned above & in this thread?

AND

Is there some old thread from 2017/18 where people discussed 12.9 Cases / Covers from back then? on this forum or others. Would like to go through that for peoples choices & experiences.
