Source? As another member alluded to, there are OLED TVs I believe support 12OHZ. So why would not a smart phone be able to support that?

OLED panels support 120 Hz but most TVs only accept 60 Hz input or at best 120 Hz at 1080p due to bandwidth limitations for HDMI 2.0. Phones typically have a much lower resolution so there is no reason other than development issues for it to happen. I don't know what are the differences besides size in developing TV scalers vs ones used in phones. It's probably not as easy as it seems as a lot of these panels are developed with VR in mind and it takes time for the tech to trickle down to more mass market products like phone displays.

Not hostile, you're just not making sense. You asked if the expected improvements were worth $300-$500 more. So you're expecting the new X to start at $1,300-$1,500? Once you create that narrative, it comes off as just a way to bash Apple and their high prices, when the opposite is expected this year. Are forum members excited about improvements to the existing X at a lesser cost? Sure, why wouldn't we be?

I think you've misinterpreted the question. The +$300-$500 is versus the discounted cost of a 2017 iPhone X after the 2018 model is released. Basically, would it be a better value to buy last years model for cheap or the newer one once it's released.

That’s fair. I didn’t read it that way. Personally I’d upgrade for Face ID 2 and Promotion alone.

One feature I can imagine being added to the 2018 5.8 beyond the typical incremental upgrades is landscape unlocking with Face ID.
