Would that have been the Pixel with stock Android?

I'm really jealous that Pixel owners have a powerful voice assistant & navigation. Both these make for a very productive phone, especially whilst behind the wheel. They're so far ahead of Siri/Apple Maps, that it hurts, every day...luckily, I'm a hybrid iPhone user, who makes good use of Google Maps voice search & the voice assistant within Chrome's 3D Touch menu.

The irony.

OP even thought not. Respect their thread.

I expect 2018 to be the real megacycle for Apple and iPhone.

iPhone X was diluted by iPhone 8 and many people are still wary of first generation hardware.

With the 6.1" iPhone, Apple is clearly targeting the mainstream customers who want the thin-bezel form factor without the price. The entire lineup is expected to be refreshed.

4.7" - SE 2 (maybe)
5.8" - iPhone 11
6.1" - iPhone 11+
6.5" - iPhone 11XL
My perfect phone will be that SE, 4.7" bezeless and SE design but slimer. To dream is free....

The X form factor and fingerprint reader in the back.

The fingerprint reader on the back of an iPhone is not going to happen. Apple considered that as an option and experimented with it, but ultimately decided that was not an appropriate placement for touch ID on the back of the iPhone prior to the iPhone X.

I am sure 2018 will be another great year for Apple. I was very happy with 2017 though. My iPhone X, iPad Pro, Apple Watch, and AirPods get use every day and I have had no hardware or software issues at all. I don't expect anything different this year.

I think after 2017, which Apple was hoping for a major deal, it will be hard to make 2018 really big. We pretty well know what is coming and I will likely buy the X+ but excitement is getting hard to produce these days.

Keep Touch ID, get rid of that horrible top notch and lower the price a bit.

Touch ID won’t remain unless it’s an iPhone SE update. Cheaper price point that you’re requesting is a possibility for the 6.1 LCD iPhone with the elimination of 3D Touch in an aluminum body without wireless charging.

Touch ID is a must, otherwise I will likely not jump to upgrade. I had a 7+, was stolen and forced to get a new one, I settle for the 8+ zero interest rate payment plan.
The notch is a poor design decision, the video experience shall never be compromised like that. Can you set it up to always play videos and browsing without overlapping the image under the notch?
I don’t want to pay for FaceID nor interested in its functionality as of today.
Wireless charging is not really something I care much, until it really happens without having to place the phone on a particular location that is equivalent to have it connected to a cable; if in the future it gets really practical then it will be a real distinctive feature.
Initially I was very frustrated with the lack of the headphone jack, as needing a dongle and some extra stuff to get the audio playing while charging the phone, after getting a newer car with 2017 CarPlay capabilities this became no issue, as well as upgrading to wireless headphones, the battery drain due to Bluetooth connectivity is no longer an issue.
Price wise and lacking basic functions will determine if the next iPhones will be back in the game for me, otherwise stay with the 8+ until they realize why we don’t upgrade.

I really did almost buy an IPX, went with a s9+ instead. Why, that notch 90% and missing features Android has 10%. Besides Dolby Atmos sounds so freaking amazing on my s9+. Hopefully in 2 years Iphone is compelling enough to switch.

2018 iPhones will be amazing, but they won’t offer anything that I consider must have. My 8 plus is surprising me every day. I keep waiting for the battery life to tank, or some other bug or issue that ruins the phone for me. None to be found.

The new phones will have much nicer screens, but the day to day use will remain nearly identical. How much faster can the a12 be? How much better will the camera be in only a year? Everything will be better for sure, but it’s not going to be night and day. No phone can be night and day in this age. The reasons to get a 2018 iPhone are slim to me if you have a 2017 iPhone. Going from a 6 plus or a 6s to a 2018 iPhone would be huge. I see people talking about selling their x for the x plus. That was my original plan, but the #1 perk of that phone is the 6.5” slim bezel screen. It’ll feel close to the same in hand as my 8 plus, but have a much better oled screen and be a bit faster. Not worth the money to me when the basic usage experience will be nearly identical, it’ll just look sharper and there won’t be big archaic looking bezels.

I really think 2019 or 2020 will be the year to really take it to the next level. Band 71 and 5G should be the norm. Who knows if we will have new battery tech at that point.

At the end of the day, the 6.5” x is ideal for people who watch a lot of video on their phone, but you can get the same feel in hand for half the price (or less) with an 8 plus or even a 7 plus. Oled is cool, but it’s not a must have for me at the moment. I paid $999 for a 70” LG tv in January that blows away any cell phone screen, regardless of price or resolution. Instagram looks the same on my phone as it does my wife’s X or my buddies Note 8. I just don’t need more than 5.5” from a phone, since what is most important to me is the form factor and a wide keyboard like the 8 plus is legendary for.

I hope to see Band 71 at the very least this year. 5G will be too expensive at launch for new plans, so I don't mind waiting for the tech to mature and the prices to drop.

You're comparing a TV to a cell phone screen. It will be a stark difference w/ a TV being better. My Hisense TV does 4K HDR. My iPhone 8+ only does 1080p. There is no comparison between the two.

As for the 2018 iPhones? It will be an upgrade for me since I can get FaceID, a new form factor, minimal bezels, Band 71, etc for a modest upgrade price since the 8+ can fetch me a decent trade in value or promo from my carrier.

I could be wrong but I don’t expect band 71 in September.

I think Band 71 was possible last year, but they didn't put it in. Intel's modems better be able to hit that for T-Mobile because we don't need to hear Android users brag about how Apple is a generation or two behind in terms of bands and what not.

I almost got the v30 for band 71, as well as the audio. I could swear I read something recently saying it still will not have band 71 this year, but I could be wrong.

Had Band 71 for a little bit on a defective S9. I did notice a little bit better service, but not enough time to test it. I am waiting for the fall for confirmation. If it doesn't, not much I can do with the iPhone radios. Just gotta use whatever I can afford this fall.

Hello

4.7" - SE 2 (never)
5.8" - iPhone 11
6.1" - iPhone 11+
6.5" - iPhone 11XL

I'm not too bothered by the notch. It's less than ideal and I don't like how Apple wants it so obvious instead of blending it in but that's what we have to live with probably for at least a year. Like always, Apple's second version of a phone is always better than the first version of the design so I hope for things like faster and more reliable FaceID and improved LTE performance.

But above all I want to see lower price for the 5.8" model. I am not interested in having anything larger than that. At over 1000 euros for the base model it's just too expensive for what it offers.

And that pretty much encapsulates why I keep going back to Android. The lack of CHOICE. Its Apple's way or the highway.

I bought an SE and then a used 7 because I like smaller phones. The SE screen turned out to be a little TOO small but the 7 is fine. However, while the 7 is a fine phone and does some things better than Android (love the powerful vibrator that I can actually feel in my pocket), the lack of ability to revise the screen layout (your icons will be here and this size) drove me to go back to Android for now.

The notch does not bother me. My Essential PH1 has one but it is mostly used for status info and a full screen display stops short of it. Good grief Apple, how hard would it be to add a setting in the OS to turn the notch off and use the area for status indications only? Choices.....

An iPhone 7 / 8 with thin bezels (or even the SE with no bezels) and a GUI that lets ME decide where stuff goes would be ideal. But I should add that price is important as well and there is no way I would ever pay $1000 for a phone.

Hmm, well we’ll get the new Plus and standard flagships. No doubt about that.

The main news will evolve around the SE I think, we didn’t see one this first half of the year, which is where all predictions of a launch were pointed to.
So is the new rumoured 6” iPhone actually the new SE? Because it is now the only other iPhone rumoured for launch this year, or, will we indeed get a cheaper handset in the form of the SE size?

This cheaper model will be the main iPhone story for this year. I don’t know what to do. Get an 8, get this new 6” and maybe lose features of my 6S and struggle with a bigger phone. Or wait.

At the minute I’ll wait and see what happens in September.

But yeah the new ‘cheaper’ iPhone will be big this year for Apple, I think.

They really should give the cheaper new bezelless iPhone the same features of the 6S or 7, maybe 8 bar True Tone and wireless charging and stereo speakers, but keep the same camera with OIS as the 8 and 3D Touch, And water resistance rating.
