Had my screen replaced this year by Apple for free because of the 2012-2013 coating issue. That is, after 5 years I had free support from Apple... so it's not a cause of concern to me.

They have/had a whole repair program, so I’m pretty sure it has been fixed - at the very least in the newer-gen notebooks.

Thx for the link, may just get one for my 2018 to protect the screen from the keyboard. I marked by 2014 screen when packing for a flight and crammed to much in a bag. Don’t want that on a new 2018!

Yeah I can't decide if it's best to have this in there all the time when the lid is closed, or just when moving the laptop around/transporting/potentially putting pressure on the display. My machine is largely a desktop replacement and will rarely leave the house, I'm not sure if the keys actually touch the screen when it's just shut on my desk without any pressure on the lid. My concern is having even a microfiber against the screen at all times might accelerate coating wear; if I knew the keys never touched the screen when just shut normally on my desk, I would probably not use it when just at my house. Definitely going to use the microfiber when I'm out and about, but just not sure what the best course of action is around the house when it's shut just sitting on my desk. My wife's 2013 has sat on a desk for 5 years with no microfiber on the keyboard and her screen is still perfect.

On the desk, you definitely won’t have a problem. I travelled with 2014 MBP daily in a Thule rucksack for 3 years and only had the marking issue when it was squeezed fairly tightly between other items in carry-on luggage. So it probably only needs protection in “extreme” cases...or better care/attentiveness when traveling!

Hi mate, just order the microfiber coating and now I have your same doubt.

I suppose that when the screen is closed there’s nothing to worry about but honestly dunno.

My previous notebook, a 13 inches XPS by dell developed visibile key mark on the screen over time.

Which way you finally choose? :)

I have both on my 13" and 15" from 1st week of use. I have the TB version where it only covers the KB not the entire screen. But I have had no issues while using these.
Do you use it just when you’re carrying your macbook around or event when it sits on the desk, lid close?

I've had one in there at all times since day 1 and so far so good.

Typically yes. I open the lid and set the Radtech next to the laptop. I give the screen a wipe off of the dust if needed. I always Travel with it on 100%. I occasionally forget it going from upstairs to downstairs but 95% of the time its on the keyboard with lid closed and machine in sleep.

Another RadTech fan here -- I've been using their ScreenSavrz for years on all of my various Apple laptops. Still getting used to the much smaller one provided for the 2018 MBP that only covers the keys and TouchBar!

I have used the RadTech's and find them to be most excellent. But I have to admit that I have become a little concerned with the 2016's and beyond having such low clearance and have recently been using a piece of silk cloth that I have cut to the size of the RadTech.

Perhaps there is no basis for my concerns, but the silk cloth is antistatic and far thinner than the RadTech microfiber, only being slightly thicker than the paper that came between the display and the keyboard, perhaps half the thickness of the RadTech.

Likely just an overabundance of caution on my part though :)

Thanks for your reply. I’m very curious about this stuff, it’s currently on its way from USA.

I’m wondering how thin it should be: i’ve tried To cover the keyboard just with an opened microfiber cloth and the lid is not closing perfectly.

Probably the radtech is ok pmbecause it fits exactly the where the keyboard is.
[doublepost=1552372219][/doublepost]A question for the radar tech users. Since there’s no space between the keyboard and the screen, the TR cloth push pressure on the keyboard I supposed, correct? Probably we’re creating some over alarm around a non existing problem. I’ve checked well the manufacturing of the MB Pro.

The keys are 1/2 mm higher than the chassis: the screen is a 1/2 mm “inside” the frame. So, theoretically, all fit in the perfect way.

Pushing pressure, even through a soft stuff, between screen and keyboard is not a good idea, unless we’re carrying our MB on a sack or whatever that may couse the screen and the keybard touch togheter (due to some pressure force).

What’s your opinion guys?

Is it though? Is there a post or something you can link to documenting that Apple acknowledged it and fixed it?

I just bought a new sealed mid-2015 the other day which definitely was prone to that issue, but it was manufactured in July of this year; I would like to think if Apple fixed it, they made this fix on the assembly line for the remaining 2015 models they continued to sell through June of this year?

In any case, I decided to buy a RadTech keyboard cover/screen saver. I'm concerned about keys contacting the screen and damaging it. It's nice because it covers the keyboard while also fitting well within the bounds of the display seal so the display still shuts just as it normally would and doesn't have any pressure or anything from trying to close on the microfiber:

OP, not sure if they ship to Afghanistan but I would look into something like this. Here is the link:

out of curiosity, may I know how much you paid for it and the spec? wow July 2015? was the battery totally flat when you turn it on for the very first time?

I bought it new at Microcenter in November for $1750; the battery was fine because it was manufactured in July, right before Apple stopped making them.

MBP without anti-glare coating is no big deal. Putting up with the crazed coating for months and dreading the loss of my MBP for 5-7 days drove me to remove the coating myself with Brasso. The results were like a fresh mountain breeze. I do not miss the anti-glare coating in the slightest.

Stain-gate.
I have an issue with my 15 MBP touch bar. Try to cleaning with micro fiber cloth but won’t clean. Maybe i should go to Apple store and ask them about my problem.

I have this exact problem. Today I had my keyboard replaced under the new programme, but the guys at the repair shop (authorized, no Apple stores in Denmark) says that the problem is not severe enough for them to replace it, according to what Apple has told them...
