I thought we could start a page with just benchmarks for the various systems. No arguing over who's to blame for whatever issues and minimal commenting, just pure benchmarks. Right now people are posting benchmarks many want to see to make a buying decision but they are scattered all over the place and hard to make actual comparisons.

Here are a list of popular benchmarks. Send me a link to any that I missed to put at the top of the page. Please feel free to run any of these as you'd like. Just list your system specs first, then what you ran.

This one tests WebGL performance - should run it in Safari for consistency across machines:

It shouldn't fully tax the system, so may be a good benchmark to compare i7 2.2Gzh 555x vs i7 2.6Ghz 560x vs i9 2.9Ghz 560x, for instance. Also, it doesn't require installing any software, and doesn't take very long to run, so the investment isn't that huge for someone to give it a try.

How about Fortnite too? I am not a fan of it but this should be a good CPU+GPU stress test and it is free.

(Fortnite has a Mac client and is built upon Metal so should do extremely well on the new MBP)

Thank you. I’m eager to hear reports on the 2.2ghz vs 2.6ghz and if the marginal cost is worth it. I ordered a 2.2ghz that will arrive mid next week, but might want to return it depending on what other people find.

I think people will need more structure than this. You will probably need to tell people exactly what to do and how to do it.

Fortnite doesn't appear to run on metal and is terrible on the mbp according to users here. Better in bootcamp.

Hmm. I just noticed that the 2.6Ghz had only 16Gb vs the i9 with 32Gb. Don't imagine it would make that much difference, but still...

That's the highest numbers I've seen on Geekbench and Cinebench on a 2.6. Though most numbers I've seen are with 1TB and 32. I'm wondering if there is some slow down in these benchmarks for the high capacity memory and storage. Would be nice to see a lot more post!

I can do some more benchmarks if you guys would like. Laptop has an annoying Coil Whine though and am contemplating returning it unless its a non issue / Everyone is affected.

My wife has a i9 with 32gb RAM. I havent seen her since she got the machine and of course we installed CB and Power Gadget and I am proud to announce we dont dip below 1077 over 8 rounds of CB with a high of 1095 and a pretty consistent pace of 3.3ghz. High 1090s are highly reproducible. I kept testing wondering if we'd hit less and sure enough it just kept rocking. Didnt get too hot either. Within about 2 mins was just slightly warmer than room temp.

Would you guys perhaps know why my 2018 boots in about the same time as my 2012 rmbp. I feel as though given the ssd is about 4 times as quick i should be booting faster but its not the case.

That's because most of the files that an operating system loads are too small to saturate that kind of bandwidth. SSD speeds over 1GB/s are only really noticeable in raw video editing.

13-in 2.3/256/16 reporting in. I don't have the coil whine on my machine.
