My mac pro 7,1, 12 core, 96gb, vega ii, serves as my main editing station. I retouch, edit 2500 images a week, edit prores 4k, and process virtual tours. It's miles beyond my i9 imac fully spec'd. I have had a 4k export running on FCP, lightroom export of over 500 images simultaneously without a hitch while still working on merging 360 panos on the QooCam app. I also have more than a few 150-200 MP pano's stitched and worked upon every week and processed in photoshop. around 2gb files.

This wasn't possible on the imac. i had to walk away when lightroom was exporting and wait. It's the sheer multitasking headroom that puts value to this machine just like @Adult80HD said. I believe if you have the cash, this will serve you for years to come.

I've had the Mac Pro 2019 since February now, 16 core, 96 GB ram for now. As mentioned before in the thread, I'm primarily a retoucher and work on 16bit huge files like the OP. It handles it really well, very pleased with the machine.

I've added a 4K Eizo + there's another HD Eizo for palettes. The stock 580X graphics card is now running at 95%+ all the time when retouching/using Photoshop, it wasn't like that before I had the 4K monitor. It's something to keep in mind, for 4K monitor perhaps the W5700 card would be better.
