Hi 👋

I have two issues I’ve noticed about my new 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 After owning it for the last 3 full days.

1- Battery life seems low. I’m getting an average of around 5H 46M screen time on from 100% to 5%
2- network freeze or cutout. I have two networks at home for WiFi. A 5G and a non 5G (standard) moving between the two areas means I end up having internet freeze. I‘ve had to reset network settings multiple times and perform one hard reset during the last 3 days in order to get internet working. It shows internet is connected but not receiving or sending data. Countless router resets. The iPhone 11 Pro Max hasn’t had this issue.

Anyone with similar experiences or have suggestions? I’d ask Apple Support but they're closed here.

Check out Settings > Battery, which can give you some tips on what might be using a lot of power. Screen brightness is a really big one and of course apps that use lots of CPU / GPU will drain the battery much quicker than those that don’t.

The screen brightness shows but My screen brightness is already down a reasonable amount. Any lower and I’d be unhappy using it like this to trade off reasonable battery life.

What about background downloads as I mentioned? (initial photo library or music library sync etc?). Under 6 hours definitely seems low for an iPad, especially considering the usage you've describe.

One other question: Did you do a restore or set up as a new iPad? I wonder if that would make any difference? (Although what a pain if you had to set up as new and it doesn't make any difference).

Absolute worst case scenario, perhaps return your iPad / get a replacement?

Most internet around the world is heavily throttled now due to all the congestion, so I really am leaning toward the background downloads being the issue here...

Keep in mind that if you have a large photo library or music library etc, that could be downloading in the background, causing battery drain. Perhaps give it some more time to download everything?
This was first on my mind as well. Whenever i set up a new device. Hell even my Apple Watch series 5 was getting crap battery life when i first got it because it was still setting up for a few days. After awhile, it went back to normal and i get great life. I’d say for the battery part, wait a few days. Especially if you have a lot of stuff youre downloading

Is there a way to tell if its still downloading?! MY photo library isn’t synced as I choose not to sync it. Music library yes but its finished downloading 2 days go.

My battery is working fine so far, I just have a scratch in the upper left corner which is reflecting in the sunlight, very annoying, I guess I have to call apple for an exchange. :/

By some chance do you have the Apple Pencil attached to the iPad Pro? I’ve noticed a power drain with my Apple Pencil attached compared to when I have it off.

So I just got off the phone to Apple support. They did diagnostics and everything came back ok in terms of hardware. He said battery was low bit combined with the issues I’m facing with the connectivity for now and as stores are closed I should do a factory reset and try that. I’m going to monitor and do that today/tomorrow if it persists. Else once stores are open ill be in asking for a genius bar meeting.

Ive noticed this also, even when pencil is 100%. Very disappointing. I’ve been leaving the pencil attachedbut slid down slightly to not trigger the charging mechanism.

When I first noticed this issue it’s quite possible my new iPP was still syncing in the background, so it may have been more pronounced, I will give it another whirl soon.

With the Apple Pencil attached, I am now down to 68% from 100% from 7 AM this morning, it is now 1150 AM. Just five hours with the pencil attached, but I did have the iPad turned off for about an hour and a half.

Now at 30% at approximately 3:25 PM with only one and a half hours of off screen time the rest of it on screen time. That’s about eight hours that’s far. I’ve been using YouTube, Internet and a little of the office software.

About 5:25 PM and my battery is at 13%, so that gives me about 10 1/2 hours with about an hour and a half of off screen time. I believe this should give you an approx usage with your iPad Pro 2020.

Normal internet usage
YouTube
Pages work
Some Siri activity
Fox news watching
