Mine is terrible
a5f3bcdbab77f14085a9e2385c950a04.jpg

Yeah... couple of things:

1- is this a new iPad?
2- Do the following to improve battery life:
*turn off background refresh
*be very selective about location service and system services options.

See how the iPad. Performs. If its still bad, hard reset and then approach Apple support.

Hi ?

I have two issues I’ve noticed about my new 2020 iPad Pro 12.9 After owning it for the last 3 full days.

1- Battery life seems low. I’m getting an average of around 5H 46M screen time on from 100% to 5%
2- network freeze or cutout. I have two networks at home for WiFi. A 5G and a non 5G (standard) moving between the two areas means I end up having internet freeze. I‘ve had to reset network settings multiple times and perform one hard reset during the last 3 days in order to get internet working. It shows internet is connected but not receiving or sending data. Countless router resets. The iPhone 11 Pro Max hasn’t had this issue.

Anyone with similar experiences or have suggestions? I’d ask Apple Support but they're closed here.

I just came to the forums to see if anyone had reported problems with the 2020 iPad Pro WiFi which is terrible on my 11" model (WiFi only, 128G). It's been happening since the day I got it, recent update didn't fix anything.
Apps like the App Store just spin the wheel and then report network connection error. Safari is REALLY slow at loading pages.
I'm sitting at my desk with an iPhone X & 27" iMac both using the same WiFi with no problems and fast loads.
Annoying that there isn't greater detail for debugging.
WiFi is provided by my Apple TimeCapsule so it shouldn't be a compatibility issue.

Here go again. A new iPad must have launched.

I tried turning on a 5GHz network on my TimeCapsule and connected to it instead. It was REALLY bad.
So I changed the channel setting from Automatic to Manual and selected Ch36. Still really bad.
Tried the other end at Ch48 and it was excellent! Also tried Ch44 and it was just as good, maybe slightly better. Didn't try Ch40.

I recommend the SpeedTest App for checking your network performance. Try playing around with the channels on your WiFi router and check each with this app.

It looks like the iPad Pro may have some RF issues since my other Apple devices are happy with any WiFi Configuration.

I had quick battery drain on my 2020 12.9 too. It turned out it was due to my UsbC hub. Even when connected without any peripheral or storage attached to it, and of course without the power delivery, it was draining the battery fast. Pulling it out solved the issue. You won’t see trace of this in the Battery stats under Settings, so do check on this manually if you have a Usbc hub connected.

its weird seems like having the Apple Pencil attached can also drain battery too.

screen time doesn’t seem to be that accurate or doesn’t work the way most think it does. Mine said I had over 7 hours screen time at 70% Battery life yet the iPad was only on for 2 hours since it was 100%. So real usage I got 2 hours of use with 30% battery. I have been realistically getting about 6 hours of actual use each charge.

where hip is spoken
Cue the conspiracy theories
Imagine if Microsoft purposefully built energy-draining "features" into their iOS apps...
Hardly. Most companies, including Microsoft, have a design philosophy with their apps that is unique to that company that has nothing to do with sabotage. Microsoft has made the shift to software and services. A negative experience with their software will not help them.

With Office apps, Microsoft appears to have an aggressive syncing philosophy. It is very noticeable with OneNote. Every pen stroke, every keystroke, gets synced realtime. That had an impact on battery life. When I'm in a meeting, I put the iPad in airplane mode until the meeting is over and the OneNote syncs everything that transpired since.

It's just their approach to their software, nothing nefarious.

I exported about 7 hours of video last night in lumafusion on battery and it went from 100% to 85% which isn't bad at all. Did you calibrate the battery since you've received your new iPad Pro? Charge to 100%, use it moderately until it's at zero % battery and it shuts off. Let it sit for about 5 hours completely discharged. Then charge it to 100% (You can use it while it's doing this) and that calibrates the battery. Talk to most battery experts and they recommend doing this every month. I personally do this to my laptop/ipad and iPhone every 3 months and the batteries are solid performers on them for years.

Screen time is based on the time period (Last 24 hours or Last x days) regardless of whether it was partially charging during that period.

I do wish they had a similar view to Android that shows battery consumption since last full charge. I think that data would be more helpful.

just like everyone in this thread Im having the same issues on my iPad Pro 11 2020 version. I also calibrate and observed the battery consumption and noticed a battery drainage. We need to submit this complaints for Apple as I have a feeling this might end up iPad Pro battery recall! It seems like we are all having the same issues. Especially knowing that most of us previously own prior version

Why are you trying to convince yourself that this is such a widespread problem that it deserves a recall? I don't even remember Apple doing a recall for the white spot issues and unresponsive touchscreens on previous iPad Pros.

I'm having wifi/network freeze cutout too since day i got it(12.9, 256GB Wifi Model). I don't have battery drain but this wifi issue is annoying. Can't use cloud apps like Miro. It is connected to wifi but not receiving or uploading data. I hope issue will be solved next updates.

Because if you look and read other threads everyone is having similar issues and as mentioned most of us owned the iPad Pro before. I also had experience With this kind of threads before and long behold Apple did a researched and recalled and have to offer repairs or replacement due to battery issues.

That doesn't mean that issue is widespread. This is largely an enthusiast forum.

Ive noticed this also, even when pencil is 100%. Very disappointing. I’ve been leaving the pencil attachedbut slid down slightly to not trigger the charging mechanism.

When I first noticed this issue it’s quite possible my new iPP was still syncing in the background, so it may have been more pronounced, I will give it another whirl soon.

To follow up on my posts in this thread — whatever this was, it lasted for a couple days and then resolved itself. I did not wipe or reset the iPP or anything.

I have noticed my 2020 iPad Pro seems to have a much worse battery than my 2018 model. It’s disappointing me as I could get through about two days of my normal usage on my 2018 whereas the 2020 can’t get through a whole day.

I wonder if it’s a problem with my iPad Pro or if the 2020 model just has worse battery life?

Same. First 4-5 days are fine but after 2 weeks it is gone bad. Today I did use 1.30 hours of procreate and it is decreased from %98 to %72. My 4 years old iPad Pro is better then this. I have 12.9 256Gb WiFi version.

I suggest you to return the trash Apple product for a full refund and go on with Samsung tab. This ain't their first time providing these bs issues for us to face. But they decides to bury these issues down deep so others can't think that others are also facing the same issue. Current apple have no clue at all what the problems and solutions are; but asking to return-in for replacement when same bs goes on again on the replacements. Apple died soon as Jobs left. Trust me on this.
