?Oh my god! Send them back. Send them all back! The pictures are horrible. How can one sleep at night??? Get your magnifying glasses & beacons ready!
All gens have had issues, but I think the Air 2 and iPad 4 were probably least problematic. My 3rd Gen Pro was problematic with touch screens here and there and cellular models bending too often, (mine has like 3 super tiny micro dents on the side,) It probably came that way as I keep the iPad safe and sound on a few microfiber cloths. But the point being... Apple needs to do 2 things: use 7000 Aluminum and figure out how to go back to doing a better job anodizing space-gray devices.
I personally am fine with the aluminum we have on all iPads, macs, and whatnot, but I am not fine with stupid engineering and design.
I write "maybe". I wondered how that defect could have made it through quality control. Dent looked like a someone smashed the frame against a hard edge.
Also, there were clear dots of spit on the screen which have not been cleared off properly. Even though the computer has been packaged like fresh and unused from the factory.
Anyways, no questions were asked when exchanging the device.
Happened to me with a MBA - maybe we're sold refurbished items without being told. Of course, exchange it for a new one!
If it’s annoying get a replacement. You paid 100% so you can expect 100% of the product.I just found a dead pixel on mine as well..... It’s extremely small and in landscape top center. I don’t think I am going to streas to much about it as everything else on the iPad looks good! Don’t want to take a chance sending back and get a replacement that’s got more issues. Still a tad annoying!
OP, I totally get your frustration. I haven't had any Apple products new out of the box in the last few years that have had any major cosmetic issues, but I remember how frustrating it was a few years back with both my iPhone 4 and my iPad 2. Dead pixels, scuffs, etc. It can be so frustrating to get into that return/replace loop and just keep getting replacements that have new issues. One of my replacement iPad 2s had 4 dead pixels!!!!
Was it damaged in shipping? Here are a couple more I came across which were damaged right out of the box. One with a huge chip on the aluminum casing by the top right speaker grill on the front and another one with huge scrapes across the top front! Talk about absolutely abysmal QC!

The boxes were completely fine. They were damaged out of the box, which most certainly happened during manufacturing. I unboxed them back in June, so hopefully Apple has managed to tighten up their QC by now.
Lol because you saw them doing it during manufacturing? It could of very well happened during shipping even with no evidence of damage in the box
I bought mine at Costco 3 times in a row over the past 6 years and I’ve always gotten perfect devices in pristine condition. Costco has high standards to protect their reputations and they are on top of the quality control checks for Costco items. Next time get one there if possible you will not regret it.After using my silver replacement for a day, I noticed a dead pixel near the bottom right corner, to further add to my dismay (see attached photo). Needless to say, this one is being sent back as well, and a third one is on the way from Walmart.
Has Apple's quality control deteriorated over the recent past or am I just really unlucky to have been sent two lemons? Never had such problems with any previous Apple products out of the box in the past so this is kind of alarming to me. ?

Costco is nice but they sell stock Apple stuff that should be the same quality than any other Apple reseller.
True but they have a generous return policy and often offer iPads at a discount.
