By the way.. This is the Crash "Log" that comes up after the Kernel Panic when unplugging the MacBook from the Thunderbolt Dock.. very informative.

Yes - that's exactly the "log" I get too. Thought perhaps it was just me who's getting no hint at all as to what might be causing this, so it's useful to know that I'm not alone. Thanks dersimn.

Updated to Big Sur and tried to use my single-cable setup. After 1h I got a USB disconnect again.

Yep - me too! :-( I was running the Big Sur beta for a while and all was fine. Swapped back the Bug Sur production version, and it's broken again. Not happy...

That at least means that a chance exist the fix will be pushed with a following update to BigSur. For those of us that choose to stay on Catalina (as there is exactly ZERO logical reasons to update to the buggy BS on Intel macbooks), we are going to live with this bug until we buy a new computer. Forget Catalina, am I right? Who needs support of previous systems? Definitely not Apple users!

I have noticed on Big Sur my receiver is dropping and does not reconnect automatically.

I am using the DAC in the Marantz receiver connected to my iMac via a USB-C cable connected to the 'display port' to HDMI on the receiver.

Switching on the receiver, or iMac, it does not reconnect automatically. I have to unplug and plug in the cable each time to the USB port despite it being the default audio output.

Just got a refurbished MacBook Pro (2020) and the only connectivity problem I have is my own clumsiness. LOL I keep accidentally tugging the power cord, which then disconnects from the power source. Simple problem, therefore simple solution; a tether. Since the cables are now easily (cheaply) replaceable, I feel comfortable crimping it for this tether. If nothing else, it may give you a much tighter connection? I plan to tether the power supply cord to the USB-C, taking up the slack.

For the past 2 weeks or so, this issue has come back after having been gone for several months. There was a macOS 12.4 automatic update at the end of May on my machine... and it seems this could be the issue. I have tried a few new USB peripherals in this timeframe, but I have also had the issue come up when switching back completely to my old setup that had not had any USB disconnect issues for months... so I doubt it's peripheral related and am thinking it could be this software update. The issues do not happen whatsoever with my Windows work laptop I use on a daily basis plugged in via the exact same single USB-C cable.

December 2022. I'm getting the same issue on Ventura. I thought it was the hub, but the replacement hub is doing the same thing. On the old hub, the got the problem even with just an HDMI cable and a Logitech wireless mouse and keyboard receiver plugged into it. I find it hard to see how a keyboard receiver could draw too much power. The new hub is a charging hub and I have the charger plugged into it. I haven't tried the keyboard receiver with it yet, but I have the problem with a MIDI keyboard.

Hate to bump such an old thread but seeing it on ventura now too, and with powered USB hubs and docks so I know the issue isnt power draw
