Yeah, so I have the 2021 12.9” iPad Pro preordered, but I have come to realize how much I enjoy watching content in my bed as opposed to anywhere else in my house. I’ve owned 12.9” iPad Pros before, but never tried using them in bed and I would assume they would be unwieldy.

I REALLY wanted that XDR display, but would the 11” be my best bet if I was going to use it in bed a lot? I wouldn’t mind saving some cash too, but I feel like I’d be missing out if I didn’t get the 12.9”. So, I’m stumped on what to do now.

Help me?

When I see someone struggling with iPad in bed, I refer them this pillow (which was previously recommended to me on MR by someone else).
It’s made of foam, super light, stable and super comfortable. You won’t feel the weight of any tablet. Hands free. Surprisingly fast shipping too. I think you can find those on Amazon too, but they're pricier.
I’d never risk holding iPad above my head, might never wake from the hit.

One month is fast shipping to you?

To me the 11" feels like an ipad of old if touch is your primary input and you like to move about and lounge where ever. Then of course you have the keyboard docking option.

The 12.9", especially where paired with the Magic keyboard, feels large and a little cumbersome. People compare it to holding a magazine but obviously it weighs more and is rigid. I always ended up feeling like I used it like a laptop when touch is really the first input and there are alot of compromises.

Yes the XDR display is appealing and no doubt Apple add it to the 11" next year, which may make people have regrets with buying this year's 11" - but that's 12 months from now and might not happen.

Yeah, I don't use my iPad in bed because I don't want to doze off into sleep and end up with a broken iPad and a broken nose.
Happens to the best of us. Mostly with iPhone for me, because you usually hold it close and right above your head.

Had the 12.9 and really think unless you intend to have it as a laptop replacement, 11 inch is the way to go. Have ordered 11 inch this time around...we'll see if that holds true.

I really, really want the XDR display as well, but given how much less use the 12.9 got solely because of its size, what's the point of having mini led if it doesn't get used as much?

I have both and use both in bed, but for different things - I read using the Kindle app for an hour or so every night on the 11" and it is perfect for that. If I am watching something or surfing the web, I use the 12.9" for the bigger screen and just sit it on my lap. I have both for work and could easily live with either size if I only had one.

I bought the keyboard case on 5/1 and come to find out (stupid me for not knowing) 14 day returns with apple so now I’m stuck with it, so I might as well keep the 12.9. Besides, having cellular on it, getting the $200 back from Verizon, I’ll probably use this more for work and what not over my 12 mini, and leave my MBP at home.

I have the first iPad Pro, touched and 9.7” screen that I use for bed also, this 12.9 was going to be used for everything outside of that, including gaming now that there is more support for controllers, Xbox game pass, etc. but this is my first 12.9, let’s see if I can live and adjust to the size.

My verdict is in - 11 is the way to go for me personally. Although the difference in mini led from the pictures other forums members are posting seems obvious, shame the 11 didn’t get that update.

However, now this offers something unique vs my macbook 13 rather than competing against it (and losing) like my 12.9 did. Just the weight difference alone feels worth it. I measured my ipad and case and it came out to a bit over a KG. Then I added up the case and ipad weights for the 12.9 and found it is more around 1.5kg. That is about the weight of my laptop.

The case though is a major game changer. I had the logitech slim folio previously and now the combo touch and this case is everything I had dreamed of for laptop/tablet tranisitioining.

I don't have the new one but I have the 2018 12.9". At the time it was my only "computer" so I got the big one. It's pretty heavy though and a little unwieldy. I think I'd much prefer an 11" in the future.

I bought the mini led one and it felt way too big, don’t get me wrong, I really liked it but it wasn’t so comfortable.
so I got the 11 m1 and just love it!
Perfect size for everything (and I even draw on this).

PLUS: battery on mini led iPad sucks so much!!!

Curious if those with an 11" pro are still enjoying them and thinking it was the right choice?
I purchased the M1 11" pro and after 2 weeks I felt like I was missing out on something. I exchanged it for the 12.9" and after 3 weeks with it I’m super happy. I finally got used to the size and the display is just amazing. It did take some time to adjust to holding it. My last iPad was the 10.5" pro.
