It’s my first iPhone pre-order as well.
I did reference number (my phone number) and then 2 hours later I got a text with the tracking number.
Sometimes I wish I was young enough to not know that reference... but every time I hear the term "I want it now", I can't help but hear that song.
Update: It showed up in my UPS app with a launch day delivery, the Apple Store still shows Sept 23 by Postal Service

It is one of those upside down days here in Colorado where it is 47° And rain/drizzle here in the Front Range, but 75° sunny and gorgeous up in the mountains. I’ll take it. It was 100° day before yesterday, and we have been setting records or close to it all month!

What do you mean by reference minus last two? phone number or order number minus the last two numbers?

It’s coming for you! I know it is! Try putting in by Reference minus the last 2 numbers.
It physically ships from China, yes. And with UPS MyChoice, we are able to see the tracking before Apple actually releases it to us. But the status of our orders won’t change from Preparing to Ship to Shipped until they clear customs in Louisville WorldPort. Until then, the shipments still “belong” to Apple and not to us individually. Once they clear customs, we will see order status change to Shipped and will see local tracking.

Do you remove the W when you use this number? Mine just keeps telling me the reference number is required. Like it doesn’t know I put anything in the box. 🙄

I was gone all day so I have a million pages to catch up with. I just peeked at the latest and folks already have tracking numbers?! How exciting! Congrats to the early birds! I just tried mine by reference number and no luck yet. Hopefully soon. I'm just thrilled that things are moving already.
