A bit? If there was no cash he’d have been dumped years ago.

Sergio's contract extension is said to be worth $28 million plus an $11 million signing bonus. And Telmex's sponsorship is worth at least $30 million a year.

So if Sergio was paid his contracted salary for two years plus signing bonus and Telmex walks, buying him out is a cool $100 million.

Most "Hearsay" out there is consistently at $71 million.

Carlos also wasn't going to settle for a number 2 role at Red Bull or a reserve driver role at Mercedes, at least he'll be racing next season and hopefully in a healthy environment at Williams.
It’s the second seat. Whether it would be a number 2 role entirely depends on his performance. 👍

F1 has a problem, too many really terrible drivers with bizarrely great money.. Yet there are no question floating around in the reserves and the poor formula 2 3 4, WEC, E..dozens of drivers that would render Max a mear joke.. But we cannot have nice things.. We have to suffer the long retirement parties, the antics of really awful drivers..F1 has always had a problem with bad drivers...'The best of the best.." NO..

Red Bull have swerved the headache and Lawson is hired instead of Yuki who is more competitive. No surprises there.

Yuki has his seat because of Honda and Honda is leaving for Aston Martin in 2026 and I am confident Yuki will be gone then, as well. So Red Bull was never going to promote him for just a year when they can hope that Liam will be able to hold his own for multiple years.

Whilst I like it, it feels a little like the old comfortable slippers. I would have loved to see Carlos Sainz there, or even better Carlos take the second seat at Red Bull.

Toto still has PTSD and FOMO over Max and believes (or at least prays) that Kimi is the next Max Verstappen. George is also comfortable in the team and looks like he will be able to comfortably take over as Team Leader in 2025 so the team only needs to "worry" about one new driver instead of two.

And that concern is why I think they passed Carlos Sainz over. They did not want to have to integrate two new drivers into the team at the same time, especially one who is a rookie.

Yeah could be true. Part of me would love to see Max go there. Just to see George's face :p

Did someone say hot chocolate!? :) Chocomel, the best there is. From the Netherlands. And best served with some whipcream and a stroopwafel. Yum.

I discovered Chocomel at Schiphol, on the way out of the country. Too bad. Much better than the typical American chocolate milk. Had packaged stroopwafels before, but never a freshly-made one like at the Cuyp market.

Now that Sergio has finally be shown the door, how will the F1 media will those column inches? I'm sure they'll find a way…
