Ouf! I hope you didn't have important data on it and/or have a good backup! Was the shop insured?

No data on it at all. This is the second time theyve had it. I hope they were insured! I had to call the police today to provided them with the S/N of my iMac.

Find my mac installed? You could wipe it remotely.

They have the computer because the OS wouldn't install. Don't think it would show up without it turning on properly :(

Well, let's hope you can make an insurance claim and get a working machine out if it!

OP, I second barbu's hope you can get a working machine out of this. Perhaps call Apple and politely explain what happened including the theft. Ask to speak to a senior adviser. If this doesn't work and the insurance claim doesn't come through, email Mr. Cook with a polite note of what happened. You never know.

I say all of this because I had an awful 3rd party repair experience back in 1999, the shop was taking forever with my brand new lemon of an iMac because they were only being paid $20 to fix it on warranty. When I finally got it back 2 months later, I had an Apple senior advisor send me a letter to confirm if anything went wrong with the repairs Apple would give me a new machine. 28 days later, the machine acted up and Apple made good on their word. I got a brand new iMac, which lasted me almost 4 years.

I wish you all the best MonkeySee...
