I got a 2007FPW yesterday and love it. I chose it over the ACD because not only is it half the price, it has more inputs too.

Well, I took a look at the ACD and the dell 2405 (can't find a 2407 anywhere in town). The ACD is 12.25'' w x 19.75'' h, and the dell is 12.625'' w x 20.5 '' h. Both have the same resolution, but the dell display is noticeably bigger. From a quality standpoint, both screens look pretty good... I was able to run a test (www.prad.de/en/monitore/ghosting2.html) on the ACD at the apple store and could not see any significant ghosting. Since the dell 2407 has a much lower response time I figure it'll be as good or better than the apple.

As for the enclosures... the dell is definitely a step (or three) below the ACD, but I don't know if that really justifies the price increase ($800 for the 2407 at Costco, and $1099 for the ACD + $79 applecare to match the Dell's warranty). The dell also supports HDCP, which might eventually come in handy.

In the end, the dell monitor seems like a much better deal, but the ACD is much more aesthetically pleasing. If the displays are updated at WWDC, is there any chance that apple might lower the price in addition to updating the specs (the specs seem good enough for me now, so I'm more interested in the possibility of a price decrease)? Is it possible we'll see 27'' ACD's?

I hated my 24inch dell.

Poor colour reproduction compared to apple and less consistent. Dell use the panels that Apple reject.

Or rather I'd say Dell uses the panels that Apple can't afford. Notice 23" and 24"? That's a big difference by the way.

I'll say it, get the ACD, its drop dead sexy! Goes with a Mac Mini perfectly!!

Yeah, spend the price of a MBP buying a display to go with a cheap mini.

That's very wise advice.

Unless the OP has a rack full of top end macs I wouldn't even recommend the ACD. It is like buying a Mercedes when you barely paid off the mortgage off your 1 room apartment.

Edit: Oh, and just to add on to the point with regards to WARRANTY! After all you don't want your expensive investment going bust do you!

Prices pulled from Australian sites, so YMMV.

23" ACD: A$2099
Dell 2407WFP: A$1099 (last day! grab yours now!)

ACD: 1 year warranty, no return policy unless it is DOA
Dell: 30 days no quibble return, so you can actually return it if it.. *gasp* has a dead pixel!

ACD: 1 year warranty (by the way you still gotta lug it down yourself)
Dell: 3 Year Next Business Day Advanced Exchange (is it too bombastic for Apple users to comprehend?)

Oh and by the way good luck if you get a dead pixel with your ACD.

Mine seems to have one live pixel (always on...blue in this case), but I can't see it unless I stick my nose up to the screen. I'm happy otherwise. =D

Looks like the price of the Dell 24'' came down $60 this morning... is it just me, or does it seem a little funny that a brand new monitor would fall to the price of its 2yr old predecessor within a month of its release?

From what I read, LCD panel supply and demand yo-yos constantly, as do the prices. Apple just has the balls to maintain full price regardless of their internal cost. Dell passes it on.

This has nothing to do with balls, it's called stupidity. There is a reason that Dell is now the world's top seller of LCD's, and Apple is falling further and further behind by using the same exact panels as everyone else, dolling them up in aluminum, and then selling them for nearly 2x the cost. Some companies are just stupid to maintain these "balls." Then again, so are many Apple users for buying overpriced hardware just b/c it's got a little apple with a bite on it on the outside...*troll* *-1* *Crapsoft fanboy* yadda yadda, say what you want...but some things are just true fellas...and i love my PB

I've always been with the "get the dell" camp. In fact, I'm running a 20" widescreen dell at home. HOWEVER, I just started using a 23" ACD at work and let me tell you its gorgeous! Despite the on-paper differences, the ACD just has a...smoother look to it (the items on screen, obviously its more attractive aesthetically). I can't quite describe the difference.

So to me, it really comes down to money for aesthetics. My Dell at home performs perfectly and it cost me half of what an ACD would have. I couldn't justify the price difference. But my god the ACD's are beautiful. Maybe I'm just enamored of the extra space. I used to use a 20" ACD at work and wasn't really tempted to spend the extra when buying my personal monitor.

Didn't necessarily mean 'balls' in a positive sense. Stubbornness, perhaps.
