What I can say is that I get the same frame rates with the 16 core and 28 core Xeons in Flight Simulator using the GD F111 aircraft in VR mode. It stays at about 35fps.

I don't crank the detail to maximum (nobody can do that, not even with RTX4090!) but what I do notice is the 28 core doesn't get any stutters. Some reckon the higher amount of cache on the 28 core might help (38.5MB), same as how the AMD 7900X3D has 128mb L3 cache (the X3D are the favoured processors for Flight Simulator). In comparison the 7900X3D is 12 cores with 4.4ghz base clock-speed and 5.6ghz max.

We are diverting away from the original intent of this topic, but even without details maxed out it's still beautiful:

In 2D I see steady 40-50fps with 5K resolution (I use Apple Studio Display and LG 5K). That's not bad given a lot of the others using PCs are not running that kind of resolution. The above screenshots are with an addon Sydney airport and the addon GD F111.

A few more examples:

Innsbruck and Bozen/Bolzano with the Junkers JU-52. With that level of detail everything will run very smoothly.

Goes to show how good the RTX4090 is. Price is also okay considering the performance.

Folks say Intel and Apple is dead, maybe true, but definitely don’t buy Apple silicon - go buy a PC and stack it with 4090 and an AMD CPU.

It depends on the use case.

I am interested in 3D rendering, so two W6800X Duos are good. And I am curious how photogrammetry and Apple's Object Capture will do.
For video rendering, I will test DaVinci Resolve Studio with Canon Log 2 files later. Got a Canon C300 mk II.
But for ProRes, can't beat Apple I think.

A 7.1 with RTX 4090 is also an option, running Windows. Like some do.

And the 5000 series is coming out soon.
If Apple doesn't announce something big for the Studio and the Pro this fall it's probably game over for HEDTs from Apple. The latest Threadrippers, Epycs and Xeons are pulling away from Apple silicon at a fast rate.
