Instead of theorizing so damn much, you should try to get the clocks under Windows with ATITool or winclk.

ok gimmie a min

edit:

lol ok, so im regretting taking that guys advice. i downloaded the program and then the imac screen went black. it now runs but with no screen...lol im typing this on my pc. grrreeeeat!!

lol anyone know anything i can do (other than never download crappy graphics programs again) ?!! eek!

Restart in safe mode and remove the program?

ok. well ive got it to boot up back into OSX having held down the apple key. i think i may have done something on the windows side of things with that program.

how would i boot it to safe mode?

Interestingly, on this review, a lower res test of the desktop 2600 Pro came in at 97 fps where as the XT came in at 132. Looks like the card is more XT than Pro.

On completely different hardware around the card, so the relevance to a laptop based architecture, unique design logic board for Apple, is minimal when comparing to PC based architecture. :(

we're back to normal lol. that scared me! is there any other way to get the clock speeds? cos im a bit dubious now about that program

ok ill give that a shot. one last question. i was downloading 3dMark to do the stress tests when the black screen thing happened and i had to restart. How do u resume the download in safari windows? its a .download file on my desktop, but its not in the safari download window anymore.

You should be able just to double click on the .download file to resume. It works for me in OS X.

Not really. The setup they had was an E6600 (3GHz C2D) with 2GB of RAM. If adom can get 115fps out of his stock iMac at a higher res, than it certainly beats the Pro benchmarks and must come close to the XT benchs.

I really appreciate all the work you are putting in. The clocks we are looking for are 700MHz on the engine and 700 (1400) on the RAM for the XT with GDDR3. The 3dmark06 should hopefully come near 4000.

EDIT: OK, so i download the official ATI control center, after what happened thought i should really take the official route. lol. here's what i found....

But us he using the same drivers? With ATI/AMD the drivers could make a difference. If his are newer they could have optimizations in them.

Very interesting find you guys! Good read. Although I am not sure how someone could think the 2600 is as good as even the low end 8800 is beyond me.

Hehe, it probably is the Mobility 2600XT. Apple probably couldn't get the 2900 to run in the iMac, so they had to settle. Why they would call it the Pro model is interesting. It probably is due to using desktop line cards in the iMac line. Usually the mobile parts has less stream processors (shaders) than the desktop part, but it looks like ATI/AMD has changed those rules.

just figured out how to get the download going again, so expect the 3DMark info to follow in the next 15mins. Atleast we're getting somewhere

edit: maybe i havent lol

Pretty good numbers :)

So we get a ATI HD 2600 Pro (desktop) / ATI HD 2600 XT (mobile) underclocked, I hope Apple lets us unlock the power.

Would have been nice if they had an ATI HD 2900 XT or something (option), probably would have been another expensive options, on top of the 24" LCD LED backlit I would have wanted too see.

Great! That is definitely faster than a Mobility HD 2600 (450MHZ) but slower than the Mobility XT (700). It is bang on the desktop Pro speed of 600. Looks like an underclocked Mobility XT then.

Yeah thats probably the most likely conclusion. But the X1600 in last gen imacs, was that underclocked too? If not why would they underclock this one?
