Ha, well, I've been waiting for the ipad to come out, and the new MBP's, now I kinda want to wait until the new iMacs are out! In all honesty my current laptop will make due for a while. I dont play many games, and doing dev doesn't really take that much processing power (atleast for me)

Careful, keep up this cycle and you'll never decide--there's always something coming down the pipe.

You'll always getting a better value on the iMacs and if you don't really need the portability of the MBP, I agree with Jaro65--get an iPad (you probably don't even need the 64 GB version) now, get used to it and get a new iMac later.

This is my exact setup except I have an i7 27" and couldn't be any happier. For my needs at least this is perfect. The iMac I use for photo editing and encoding blurays mostly and some gaming and websurfing. The iPad websurfing, gaming, email, books, etc...

Another vote for the 27" iMac + iPad combo. I sold my MBP 17" Unibody and my 24" iMac Extreme 2.8ghz. Then bought the 27" i7 iMac and pre-ordered the 64Gb 3G version. I had the Wifi version for two weeks before I sold it, but the combo works great. Also with as much as I travel, the iPad is easier to carry and deal with, than a 17" MBP. I could never use it on the plane or it was too much of a hassle to carry to the hotel coffee shops and such.

I'm in the same boat as you. I have a 64+3G coming, but I'm not sure if I should downgrade to 64 wifi. I never take my laptop out of the house. So me taking an iPad out and about seems not too likely. I do have an iPhone and my girlfriend that lives with me as a wifi ipad. I do use it on occasion and haven't had a new for 3G service. Plus the area I live is has very poor 3G. I'm mainly on edge the whole time. Ughh.... what to do?

I have a MBP and next one I get will probably be an iMac. I use this thing far more like a desktop than a laptop so why not get a real desktop? :p

I have the iMac and iPad setup and love it.

I had been thinking about a MacBook pro for when I am on the road (or a air) but went with the iPad and love it.

When I am home I stick with the iMac for serious computing and chill with the iPad on the couch when I need my macrumors fix.

A laptop would be nice but then you don't need the iMac and I really love that computer. The screen is amazing and the i7 is ridiculous. On the road all my content creation is on a work laptop so the iPad is for surfing in the hotel and watching movies on the plane - 2 things it is great for.

Cast my vote to iMac + iPad. If iPad isn't out there, then there is no question that I would go for mobility. But, with iPad available, you can remotely access the iMac so all the heavy duty work can be done there while checking status from the iPad.

MBP for sure. You seemed to imply that you might need to be productive while not at the iMac, not just play around, so then the MBP is given.

i got an iMac 24" + iPad 64GB wifi + iPhone 3GS 32GB setup and the three work great together.

In a perfect world, I'd have a Mac Pro with duo 30" monitors, a 27" iMac, a 17" MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air, iPad 3G, iPhone 3GS, iPod touch, apple TV...and a mac mini and iPod nano, iPod classic, and an iPod shuffle to complete the collection :D

I recently sold my Macbook Pro and bought an iMac, I just imported an iPad.

I miss the multitasking side of my macbook, I used to watch a TV show in the corner whilst brwosing/working.

but other than that I'm not regretting a thing.
Though it's worth mentioning that I had the macbook hooked up to an Apple monitor, so most of the time when I needed to do real work I'd be sat at my desk using the bigger screen anyway

The iPad allows me to break away, relax and do the basics.

well, the basics undersells it, but you know what I mean.

Think about what you don't like about your current workflow and make your decision on that.
Do you feel you spend too much time at your desk?
Do you work too much/spend too much time on the mac due to being portable?
Will the iPad be too restricting?
Will the benefits of the iMac over the macbook (Screen, larger drive/RAM options) be beneficial?

good luck with you choice

Edit - p.s. your poll might be swayed as it's in the iPad section.
