My phone is starting to give me some problems.

My sleep button is broke, it freezes up in different and unique ways once every few weeks, and im starting to worry that the battery isn't what it use to be.

I really hope the phone doesn't get too bad that i have to go and get a 3GS since i really dont think all the features and extra money i have to shell out on the data/text message plan every month is worth it.

Im also holding out in hopes of a new phone design, a better camera/recorder, one that may be able to work at night, and im interested to see if AT&T keeps its exclusive deal.

I bought my iPhone 2G the second in July of 2007.

How is everyone else phone holding up, anyone in the same boat?

I'd say with those problems, get it fixed (If you still have Apple Care)

Why not buy a 3G for $99?

Mine sure will, only thing is the battery giving out a bit but I don't usually browse the internet intensively on it anyway.

The price of the phone itself isn't so much the problem, its the extra 15-20 dollars a month i have to spend on a data plan.

The original 2G data plan is 30 dollars and includes 1500 texts. They stopped that when the 3G came out.

2G owners pay $30/Month for Data and 1500 Text?

I pay $30/Month for just Data

Well, at least my phone was subsidized so I can't complain.

I think you only get 200 texts, but the 2G data plan is only $20. My only real complaint with the 3G plans are that they didn't give out 200 texts for the $10 bump in price.

I'm waiting until 2010...

Yea like faustfire mentioned, its basically why i still have a 2G.

I rather the phone be more expensive then have to pay a higher data plan cause i can at least sell the phone when im done with it.

If it weren't for slow Edge I probably would've kept by 2G

Phone definitely would've made it to 2010. Probably beyond that

either way, you're gonna pay the same 30 dollars for the data plan when you upgrade. i don't see that price coming down anytime soon

Your right I don't see the price dropping anytime soon either I just wasn't really blow away with the features that have been added since the 2G.

Edge is very slow but I always seem to be within wifi range so it doesn't really bother me all that much.

I do wish i had more then 8GB of space. I also do wish the the phone quality itself is better (people tell me the the metal plate is one of the reasons for poor call reception)

Personally, going from the 2G to the 3GS was almost the same as going from my old RAZR to the iPhone. My 2G maybe could have last another year, but I'm very pleased with getting my 3GS, it's a huge jump.

My current 2G can hold out 1 more year. It has taken a beating in part thanks to my little cousin.

I am not a fan of the new black plastic iPhone, but I can't really tell if my current phone will stay strong. I know for sure the battery life has decreased by now.

Also, the $20/month data + text plan is one solid reason why i want to keep my 2G; however, I have found a way to keep that and have a 3GS ;) without the pricier plan.

I reckon my 2G could make it another year. But I'm not sure I want to hold out. I think I'll be purchasing a 3GS in the coming weeks as the 2G iPhone and OS3 are beginning to piss me right off with the slowness of it.

I've used a friends 3GS extensively and I am quite chuffed by the speed, improved gps, better camera and that all important 32gb of storage.

I'm still running my 2g - wasn't prepared to put up with O2's ludicrous prices to upgrade.

Beginning to have a few similar issues with the battery and the home button, but a battery pack might sort that anyway... Not willing to commit to paying out that much money on that long a contract when I think the next iPhone will be a significant improvement.

I'll be keeping mine for a good while yet.

I'm going to be living abroad for a year and amn't at all sure that I'll even be getting an internet package for my phone so 3G isn't important + the prices are a bloody joke still. (referring mainly to the fact the 3G still costs as much as it did a year ago)

same for me... i will wait until it gives up then buy a second hand 3g for £150.00

My 2G iPhone has been in the wars,
Many scratches / dents from getting dropped etc...
The silent switch broke but apart from that she is a lovely piece of kit,
But my contact ends in August so 3GS here I come!
I must say I rather the feel of the 2G iPhone to the 3G because it feels more solid and durable!

What do you think?

My 2G is still serving me will after all these years. It will be 2 years old on September 13th. Th back of the phone is scratched and has many dents. I used it during college, so you can understand. The screen however is pristine, and everything works 100%.

Also, I got Markus Schulz to sign the back of it in Chicago, so I'm never getting rid of it. The 3GS launches in India on August 9th, so I will get a white 32GB and induct my 2G in my iPhone hall of fame.

Solid plan eh?

My 2G is 2 years and 1 week old and is still almost as-new. Battery life isn't quite the same it was, but is more than adequate in the same pattern of use and charging it's always had. It has occasionally frozen (probably half a dozen times in all) and the 3.0 update has left it running a little slower overall and suffering greater lag when opening/closing apps, but overall it's still very serviceable and seems very likely to last at least another year.

The extra speed and features of the 3GS are an attraction though, as is the extra storage (my 2G is only 4Gb) so I'm considering upgrading at this point, particularly for the GPS and compass for when I'm out on foot, and for the video which would make a handy additional source for home movies. On the other hand, with a perfectly serviceable 2G, I can't help but wonder if it might bet better to wait until next year!
