I also had an Edge phone right until the 3gs came out, as mentioned above the only thing that made me re-think getting a 3gs was the data plan...I still have no use for 3g speeds though, I only wanted the 3gs for the 32gb of space :(

It's kinda worth it, but having to pay almost $100 a month vs $60 is a no no

And I gave my Edge phone to my sister, she is with T-mobile and it works better than ever apparently, so I would say it will last another year or two
no scratches no nothing.

I bought mine the end of June, 2007. So far, it's working well. Another year should be no problem.

I reckon my 2G could make it another year. But I'm not sure I want to hold out. I think I'll be purchasing a 3GS in the coming weeks as the 2G iPhone and OS3 are beginning to piss me right off with the slowness of it.

I've used a friends 3GS extensively and I am quite chuffed by the speed, improved gps, better camera and that all important 32gb of storage.

Don't give in! If you buy an iPhone 3GS, Apple WINS. Yes, 3.0 is slow and it's frustrating, but ever since I downgraded to 2.2.1, it's almost as if I have an iPhone 3GS again.

2.2.1 = iPhone 3GS without Copy and Paste

Ya savvy?

The troll is back..............

Can't say that I have experienced any real slow-downs since 3.0 on my 2G iPhone. That together with the ease to unlock/JB etc. still keeps me more than happy.

I was however a bit frustrated that Apple scraped that plans to bring tethering to the 2G iPhone. But PdaNet might sort that out for me.

Mine lost touch sensitivity in the middle of the screen..... sigh
so im upgrading soon. I wish i got apple care

The price of the phone itself isn't so much the problem, its the extra 15-20 dollars a month i have to spend on a data plan.

The original 2G data plan is 30 dollars and includes 1500 texts. They stopped that when the 3G came out.

you could decide to work the system.. thats what i do. i have had all 3 iphones and all 3 have been on the 2g data plan 30 dollars for 1500 text and unlimited data. i of couse receive the email and text from att saying that the plan is unelidgable. i had the 3g on release day and the 3gs a few days after release day and nothing has happen.

i did lose the data plan when i went to the 3gs and was fighting on the phone with them to get it back but they said it is impossible, so after around the 4th call the guy said that all i needed was a imei from a 2g phone so the system let them add that data plan. so i said on the phone as a matter a fact i just switched back to my original iphone since i didnt like the 3gs and gave him the imei and he put the data plan back on.. while i was talking to him on my 3gs lol. the only way i had the imei from the original phone was because i found a smashed one on the street a few months after it came out and i kept it for fun.

I dunno if I can last another minute with Edge speeds
I'm getting a 3gs soon and if the iphone moves to Verizon I'll just break my contract it's only a few hundred. The iphone is a grown mans device for people who can afford it.
an extra 10 or 15 a month isn't that much anyway. If you can't afford to add only 15 a month to your overall expenses you should probably not even bother with the iphone at all.

My 2G is still serving me will after all these years. It will be 2 years old on September 13th. Th back of the phone is scratched and has many dents. I used it during college, so you can understand. The screen however is pristine, and everything works 100%.

Also, I got Markus Schulz to sign the back of it in Chicago, so I'm never getting rid of it. The 3GS launches in India on August 9th, so I will get a white 32GB and induct my 2G in my iPhone hall of fame.

Solid plan eh?

I love "Cause You Know", great song!!!

Why spend money when i dont have to? Why would i pay an extra 180 dollars for something i have now for free?

Its not so much that the 180 is a back breaking number its the mentality that who cares just spend it if you got it, that is driving people to the poor house.

extra 15 a month for the phone
extra 30 a month to get all the cable channels
extra 50 for a better gym membership
extra 250 to upgrade from the 3 to a 5 series
extra 500 a month on eating out
etc etc etc

Oh wait we cant pay the mortgage lol

Im not signaling you out looon but some people are bad with their money.

well that's their problem. That's what I meant when I said grown mans device. A grown man knows how to handle his finances

If this phone does die, then i could always just go and buy a first gen iphone off craigslist and switch sim cards?

My 30gb ipod video between the second and third year had bad battery problems and died out completely on me. Just hope the iPhone doesnt share the same battery life.

My 2G has held up very strong, the battery life is still pretty good. I think it should last until next summer and probably beyond that, I plan on upgrading in 2010.

Halfway point!!

My phone is banged up with more nicks and dents, screen is still in perfect condition

Home button feels a little less responsive, could be in my head

Phone freezes up often (maybe once a week, my sleep button is broke so i have to reset network connections just to reboot phone and thats a pain)

Apps open up slow and other functions are not as responsive, reboots usually do the trick)

Battery is still pretty good, cant complain.

Im hoping this phone can last 6 more months until the 4th gen comes out.

Purchased my phone in 9.07 and it's still running perfectly and scratch free. The 3G and 3Gs did not peak my interest. I'll see what the next generation affords. I usually switch phones every 3 to 4 years. I have been with AT&T since the old Cellular One days back in 1987.

ok let me clear this up for u. u dont have an iphone 2g! u have the iphone 1st generation, the second generation is the iphone 3g, the 3g does not stand for 3rd generation, it stands for iphone on 3g network, because the 1st generation iphone is on the 2g edge network. the iphone 3gs is the 3rd generation iphone. everyone always thinks that the original iphone is an iphone 2g. and just to let u have a better experience with ur phone, if the button doesnt work, jailbreak it, get sbsettings from cydia, u can lock it from there. if it does work but doesnt respond because the phone is slow, download system activity monitor from the app store, open it and click free memory, ur phone should stop freezing and ur button should work, if it happens again just click free memory. good luck!

wow what's up your arse today?

I have had mine running jailbroken and unlocked since Sep-07. Has served me well in 3 countries running on cheap data plans :p I dropped it face down twice and the screen was no longer responding to touch. Had it replaced for $200  so I feel compelled to hang on to it longer

The 3GS seems to be noticeably faster but I'm quite patient so its not a problem. The only reason I feel like upgrading to a 3GS or even buy a blackberry is for 3G. But £450(I dont like contracts) to upgrade from Edge to 3G seems like a lot! So I'll hang on to mine for another year atleast! And yeah I do like the aluminium back much better than the plastic!
