I wouldn't doubt it.

I bet 2.0 will be a camera, more storage space, and a new os version.

BTW the store is down 4:17pm Eastern 10-31-10

EDIT: USA Store.

I would not believe they had the second revision "done" already. I do believe they already started working on the next model, but it is in no way completed 2 months before the first one is released. I also believe they considered putting in a camera in the first iPad, but scratched it. Code in the OS 3.2 shows this.

EDIT: You are right about the store. I just checked and it is down. Very interesting...

I didnt really mean it was a 2nd gen just they have added some features to it before release!

I was also hoping they would add a camera before release, but why would they have created all of these press images and videos without the camera in it? And why wouldn't they have announced the camera? Doesn't make sense. :(

Really dont no! I hope it does have a camera, will never use it, but would like one :) maybe they will only put one in the 3G model?

Because the event was just to get it out in the open so they could start getting dev's to make content, get telecom companies to sign deals, and get FCC approval.

But they didn't want to spoil the new iPhone by showing off OS 4.0 and the new video ichat feature way early. (same with the verizon deal)

:p

Hah that'd be so awesome :D
I expect that they have held back many software related features, which will be released with iPhone 4.0 (available on iPod touch, iPhone and iPad) because they all do run iPhone OS, modified or not and I expect 4.0 to bring them all onto the same version. June/July can't come fast enough! :)

Video chat . . . the least used feature on existing desktop and laptops. Why is that? Could it be that most of us aren't Brad Pitt? :D

Agree its not a thing i use everyday but its a great feature to have to have when its needed! I use iChat to talk to the better half if one of us is away.

Too late. That have to be well into manufacturing (some may already be in shipping) in order to have them on shelves in 2 months. It's likely that the units shown were actual production units (not prototypes) that were air shipped from China. Shipping from China to US takes almost a month then customs takes a a week or so. This doesn't count China factory to China seaport time or US port to distributor then to stores time either.

Without being mounted on a stand, a webcam video chat on either a Touch, iPhone or iPad is going to suffer from bad camera angle and motion. Hand held devices do not lend themselves to video chats.

Thank you Apple for not tacking on a nearly useless feature.

I see. That would make a lot more sense. Thanks for clarifying that. While I doubt a PR agency would have any information on this, I hope Apple does include a front facing camera on the device. iChat and Photo Booth are hallmark Apple applications and the iPad should have both. If Apple developers can figure out a way to port over iWork, they can manage the two previously mentioned apps.

I don't think that after years of R&D and just a few short hours after Apple announces the product and a ship date that Apple decided on a fundamental design change. This would require retooling of the line, a new procurement process and would likely delay it for at least 2 months or more.

I think the front camera was tried and rejected more because of practicality. Unlike a laptop the iPad is to be used more 'on the fly" and in the lap. There is no way to have the camera line up with all the different angles it will be used in. Also it will not be stable when sitting in your lap so imagine how sea sick the viewer would get watching the camera bouncing around as you type in your lap.

Store is still down, could this mean they will be back up with the ability to pre-order ipads, or is this just wishful thinking?

wishful thinking. UK store is ok and i would of thought they would of given UK prices before they allow pre orders :)

I doubt Apple would preorder 2 months out. Also Apple may want to have it sold in store only to have 1st day lines (worked so well with the iPhone) for promotion/local & national news purposes.

They are not legally allowed to even accept pre-orders for it until it has FCC approval, which is at least a month away.

See, I disagree with the image of the iPad as primarily a mobile device. In what way would users be mobile with it? Walking around with a device that large? I don't see that. Apple clearly shows the device being used while lounging around on a couch or on a table at a cafe. In that sense, I do see it being a "mobile" device. You're not tied down to a desk and can use it anywhere in your house, car, plane, train, bus...However, in none of the instances is the user actually moving.
If the user has the iPad resting on his legs while lounging on a coach, the device would be fine for taking pictures in Photo Booth of even video conferencing. If the iPad is used in the Apple case or dock, it should not "bounce around" while typing.
